one more question
is there an issue with signing up right away?
meaning do these Ironman races fill up to where they do not allow any more to sign up?
or can I wait ?

I just signed up for the half!!!!
Mike-there has been talk that the half could fill up fast. But as someone said oftentimes the first year of a race it takes longer to fill up. But what are you waiting for?! I told myself we usually regret the things we didn't do more than the ones we did!

But what are you waiting for?! I told myself we usually regret the things we didn't do more than the ones we did! The only issue for me is paying the money then something coming up that I cannot get out of Like doing a wedding, funeral, out of town or ?? I just want to be sure I am available this seems such a long way off but you are right I am just going to do it and then I have to follow through and everything else will have to work around it. ( I hope) mike

I know what you mean Mike. I usually don't sign up early for races, at least rarely and then like for Vermilion I did and got sick! This is what Rev3 had on their site about that stuff:
Transfer/Withdrawal/Credit Policies - All Things Possible Productions Why Revolution3 and ATP Productions is different: ATHLETE TRANSFER POLICY Revolution3 is different from other events in that we will allow transfer of registration if handled according to the policy outlined: Transfer MUST take place by July 30, 2010 in writing and submitted to: transfer@rev3tri.com / If you contact us with all necessary information including your name, DOB, address, e-mail along with all necessary information of the athlete you are transferring to, we will grant your request. New athletes must also fill out proper registration forms and waivers. From August 1st 2010 forward however, transfers will not be allowed. Thereafter you are subject to the standard policy outlined below. Entry fees or event participation is not transferable to another person. If you sell or give your race slot away, both you and the person using the race slot are subject to a 2 year suspension from racing at any USAT or ATP Production Race. ATHLETE WITHDRAW If you wish to withdraw from the Revolution3 Knoxville Event, you may receive an event credit to a future Revolution3 Event. The event transfer is valid for the next year’s event only. You must notify us in writing via e-mail (cancel@rev3tri.com) or Fax: (571-281-4443) of your intent to withdraw and meet one of the following scenarios. (1) If for any reason, you notify ATP Productions (ATP) more than 30 days prior to the start of an event weekend of your withdraw you will receive a 100% credit towards a future ATP Event. This credit only covers the race entry fee. USAT one day passes, processing fees and online registration fees will not be included with your credit. (2) If you have a MEDICAL Reason, you will need to provide a signed doctors letter advising us that you are not able to compete. This letter must be received by ATP Productions 14 days prior to the event weekend in order for you to receive your race event credit. This credit only covers the race entry fee. USAT one day passes, processing fees and online registration fees will not be included in your credit. EXTENUATIONG CIRCUMSTANCES (3) If you have an injury or a member of your immediate family has a death or a medical emergency and it is within 14 days of the scheduled event yet greater than 72 hours prior to the event, you will need to notify us in writing. The race director will consider each request on a case by case basis for future ATP event credit.

I think I just experienced "sticker shock"
I went to register and saw the price
Wow I had no idea these big races cost so much.
I think I am going into the Triathlon race business
anyone want to with me?
The biggest problem will be telling my wife.
I got by on buying an expensive bike because I accidentally hit the buy it now button when I intended to bid on it. ( I am telling the truth).
I have to think of a way to justify this
Any ideas on what you tell your spouse who really does not see the point in all this why you are spending $260 to suffer for 5 1/2 hours?

I'm in ... for the whole kit-n-kaboodle .. the full IM! I signed up for the race series on Aug. 1: Oly in May in TN, 70.3 in June in CT, then the big one out at Cedar Point ... Can I put in a bid on Durno for the weekend?? (As an Ironfan, of course! Get your mind out of the gutter!!!)

It's cheaper than smoking. Such wisdom and at such at a young age You convinced me with only 4 words. thanks I am in I will use those 4 words on my wife Hey its also cheaper than heart surgery when I am in my 50's from being out of shape. I really want to do the full Ironman next year but I am resisting the temptation and sticking with the plan. mike

Mike - I've done 4 Half distance races. Completely fell apart on the bike in 3 of them (actually quit my 3rd one I was so frustrated). This year I finally figured out my hydration (thanks to Eric B.), my nutrition (thanks to a bunch of peeps - mostly Rob R.), and my pacing. Was able to run to my ability in that race. Pre-race meal for that one was a big plate of pasta, one beer, and a bunch of water.

What do you mean "fell apart"? details? and how did you do on the one you finished? what was your time? what about a full IM? You would have the biggest cheering section of the race if you do one. You would be a sub 11 hours right? mike

Mike - answers in order:
1. In my first 3 halfs - completely lost power on the Bike at about mile 35 - and suffered into T2. The run was simply misery - my pace was rediculously slow (for me). I did finish my first two, but it hurt.... bad. I quit in the middle of the run of my 3rd race out of frustration and anger.
2. My PR was this year at Monroe: 4:45 -ish.
3. No IM's in my future.
4. LOL
5. I'm such a hammer-head, I'd blow-up and end up going 16 hours plus.
