Mickey,
Personally, I will be unable to attend the information session next Tuesday but I am interested in what will be covered. Is it merely a Q&A session or will there be information provided that the Rev3 website doesn't get into? Furthermore, will this info be available elsewhere? I am sure all the details will become available once the race gets closer but am just curious for those who are worried about the half selling out.

Do you guys think this will sell out fast? I hoped to save the money and sign up for the half sometime this winter.

I doubt it will sell out fast - but, you never know. If it does - then do Toyota Challenge instead (for 1/2 the cost and still a good race) and wait a year for Cedar Point. We got nothin' but time, baby !!

Wow Mark, you're right. I didn't realize the Deer Creek 1/2 is so much less expensive. I just checked and it's only $95 if you register early. Guess that's something to think about.

Tiffany, Are you doing the 1/2 there? If so, it would really be nice to hear your thoughts on it! Good luck too!

Kim, yes I am doing the 1/2 at the Toyota Challenge at Deer Creek 9/27 ... I impulsively signed up ... The thought process was that if I could have one under my belt as a "baseline" then I wouldn't be so freaked in June when I do the Rev3 70.3 (and subsequently the full at Cedar Point) I met a woman at the Cleveland Tri and she kind of got me interested, so I just pulled the trigger. I'll chime in after it's over. I've heard good things from a friend. In the mean time, here's what they are saying over on BT.com:
The bike route is very flat (with a tiny hill toward the end). The run is flat.
In late September the wind can be dicey. But a breeze on the run feels good.
The run from the lake to T1 is a bit on the long side. (IMO)
I'd suggest getting there early so you can get through packet pickup and take your time setting up.
If your not sure of something ask for help.
And don't forget to have fun. AND I rode this bike course yesterday. I noticed a few things. -It's really windy there. The last time I rode the course (Toyota Tri, last year) and yesterday the wind was pretty bad along Egypt Pike Rd, the first rd you turn on out of the park. Be perpared to get in aero right away and keep the HR high for the first few miles. -Dick Rd is chip-and-seal, narrow and fast. I had a crosswind. I also joined the yellow socks brigade on Dick Rd. (go figure) -Locust Grove is the best spot on the course to make up some time. It's mostly flat and provided me a tail wind. I decided to really push it and see how fast I could go. I hit 30mph. There is one spot along Locust Grove that goes up and crosses another road. Be careful here if you're riding at top speed. -The first major hill of the course is on Crownover. You go down a really nice downhill first. Then, just about the time all the free speed you've gotten is gone, you hit the uphill. If you were able to make up the hills at Miami then this one should not be a problem. It is just as steep but not as long. -The second hill of note is on Egypt Pike. First you go down a long, twisty downhill on Crownover, then you have to slow down and make a left turn onto Egypt Pike and start climbing. I think this is probably the most dangerous turn of the course. In years past they have had police there. Pay attention and be careful. Once you get to the top of this hill the wind hits you in the face again.

I was alble to register for the Half today. I was able to get spot by signing up to raise money for the V Foundation for cancer Research. I Have one year to raise 500$ witch I felt was more than fair. Ed

LOL NO Kim, I have been unemployed for few months now and really cant put out 250$ for a race fee. They have a charity program to raise 500$ for the V foundation you get a free entry. I believe general entry was still open and is uncapped at the moment. Check out Erics blog notes on the subject. Ed

A few words about Toyota Challenge: good course, good support, HFP knows what they are doing, BUT . . . there are three different distances plus aquabikes at the Toyota Challenge, the 1/2 being one of the less popular events. When I did the race a couple of years ago the park was getting pretty empty by the time I hit T2 and it was a ghost town by the time I finished. I was pretty lonely during the run until I found a buddy to chat with during the last 3 miles. BTW, I was one of the last people to finish, so people finishing two hours before me might have a different experience There is no guarantee that this Rev3 race is going to be huge, but I have to assume it will have more than 150 participants in the 1/2, which is approx. what the Toyota Challenge would have. I guess my point is, think about how important the atmosphere is to you, because I have a feeling these two races will differ greatly there. Maybe you will like the quieter Toyota, or maybe the amusement park Rev3. Alison

You had me worried there for a minute Ed. Thanks for the info about the Rev1/2. Sorry about the job situation though.
Allison, thanks for letting us know about the Toyota Challenge, too. Being alone for a 13.1 mile run would be awful. I'd prefer to have the street packed with runners. Some cheering fans are always nice too.

Thanks Alison I would be disapointed if that happened to me. I like HFP but my only complaint is they let people clear out of transition before everyone is done. My T2 I had to navigate through all Sprint people trying to get out of there.

I'm in for the Cedar Point 1/2 - just signed up! WOW! ;D
Look at what I found in the fine print when I made the room reservation for Hotel Breakers:
For guests' safety, bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters are not permitted on Cedar Point Property
Ha!! Guess we'll be breaking the rules!

Hi CTC, I've been catching up on some of the posts, questions, and comments about Rev3 Cedar Point. I assume that most, if not all, of you have not experienced a Rev3 race (we've only had 1 so far) yet. Our goal is not to offer a cheaper alternative to Ironman. We price our races competitively to Ironman but our goal is to offer a lot more for your entry fee. Our strategy is to host races at fun, family friendly venues, thus the connection to Cedar Point. For your entry fee, each athlete will receive 2 park passes. That is a $92 value right there. You will also get tons of swag. There will be live video coverage that your friends and family can follow the race either in person at Cedar Point or on the internet. You will also have the option to wear a GPS tracking device that can track you around the course real-time. Our timing system will allow you to see what place you are in your division after the swim, bike, and during the run. It goes on and on. We believe we offer a tremendous amount of value for your entry fee. With that being said, we may not be a viable or desired option for everyone. We can't be everything to everyone. I can promise you that the costs for putting on a race of this magnitude far outweigh the revenue from our entry fees.
We believe that this event at Cedar Point has the potential to be one of the best venues in the country. We look forward to a long term relationship with Sandusky and Cedar Point.
We hope to see you in September.
