CTC Peeps,
We are starting a Saturday morning ride at Lifetime Fitness. The first one will be THIS SATURDAY, Oct. 23rd. We will meet at 8:45 in front of the main entrance at Lifetime Fitness in Beachwood and we will push off at 9:00 a.m. We will ride 20-30 miles, (perhaps more) depending on the interest of the group. This ride is designed for riders of all levels. You can ride off the front if you like, but nobody will get dropped.
I don't know about you, but I am NOT ready to get on my trainer. I've got my windstopper gear ready and I am riding outside until Old Man Winter makes me move indoors!! This weekend it's looking like I won't even need the cold weather gear!
Questions? Post 'em here.

Hmmmm, I'll be thinking about hitting some long false flats, and if Mother Nature cooperates with some strong winds we'll get in an ideal training ride for IMFL. Too bad you didn't come out while training for IM St. George...we could have just ridden up Old Mill a few times, which is barrels of fun.

Well, Brandon, I'm not doing IMSG until May ... I'll take you, and anyone else that feels the need to abuse me - so long as intentions are good - up on the hill workouts, starting as early as possible next spring! I'll be doing the spin classes when the snow is out, but otherwise, as soon as the weather breaks, I'll be desperately looking for some help with my cycling and hills - I'm scared about this race! You CTC peeps can make it your mission to help me build the fitness I need for that race - I want to be able to REPRESENT!! Got your PM - no worries - if I want to do more, I can head home and do my staple ride on Lakeshore. Plus, I'm going to hit the pool too.

Ride Report 10-23-10
Today was the first of the Lifetime Fitness Fall Saturday morning rides and Mother Nature greeted us with very fine riding weather. After riding to the club, I shoved off with a group of ladies shortly after 9:00 a.m. It was a little brisk getting started, but very quickly I warmed up and was very comfortable. I would say that I rode in my cool weather gear. The cold weather gear is still waiting for colder temps. I have a feeling I will need it soon. In weather like this, I know that I am dressed properly if I am a little cold getting started. If I am comfortable starting out I am overdressed and will be sweating bullets in no time.
As we rode east towards the Chagrin River Valley overcast skies with the sun peaking through lit the fall foliage. The birds were quite chatty, common for this time of year while the migrators are passing through. This became particularly apparent once we were on the bottom of the valley near the river.
At that point we split into 2 groups. After following River Rd. for a spell, I ended up climbing out of the valley at Jackson Rd., which is steep early and then gradually rolls up to the top of the valley. Joining me on this climb was someone who might be referred to as a “newbie,” being relatively new to cycling on the road. It was on this climb that I easily remembered my first climbs out of the Cuyahoga River Valley a few years ago. What I hope sticks with me from the ride this morning is to remember that by pushing our limits and challenging ourselves we can end up some place that we can (and should) be proud of. Perhaps we could even do something we never thought possible. Seven years ago when I hopped off my bike after riding 8 miles and barely making it up the long climb back to my apartment my legs wobbled underneath me. This year I finished my second Ironman. I still should be surprised by that and I hope to carry that lesson in all of my endeavors.
We rolled back into the Lifetime Fitness parking lot with the temperature rising but the sky threatening rain (of course, it never really did rain). Our route was ~20 miles and the other group likely finished with a little under 25 miles. Everyone commented on the hills. And we didn’t even climb up the Western flank of the valley onto the "rollers out east." Maybe next week…..

Well folks, the weather is looking questionable for our ride tomorrow; Saturday, November 6th. Snow flurries will not keep me (us) from riding and neither will some cooler temps, but wet pavement and near freezing temps will. If the pavement is dry (flurries or no flurries) we will ride. If the pavement is wet (creating a chance for ice), we most likely will not.
I will post an update Saturday morning by 8:00 a.m. whether we will ride or not. Yes, I'm waiting until the last minute because I want to ride and will only cancel if conditions are hazardous. Here's hoping for dry pavement....

LT ride is cancelled for today, November 6th due to road conditions. Looking at the weather forecast for the upcoming week, I am hopeful that we will get in more Saturday morning rides before Old Man Winter moves us inside for good.
Stay tuned...

As I am sure you have guessed, the Life Time Fitness rides or over for this winter. Old Man Winter has finally moved us indoors. Look for outdoor rides to pick up again in the spring. If you are a Life Time member, check the indoor cycling schedule for "performance cycle" classes, which are geared towards those of us that ride on the roads. CTC member Kurt Molter, who came in 2nd overall at the Cleveland Tri this year, teaches a KILLER performance cycling class at 6:00 a.m. on Monday mornings, and there are other classes on the schedule lead by some great cyclists. As for Saturday mornings, I am looking forward to the beginning of East Side Indoor Cycling this weekend!!!! Hey Brandon, in the spring, will you be leading Saturday rides out of Life Time, Thursday night rides once the daylight is adequate, or both?
Just curious.......

We're not sure yet. The one thing we are sure of is that there will be at least 2 rides leaving from Life Time each week. Days and times are to be determined, most likely by March. I will post details as soon as we have them.
