I realize this is fairly early, but I am being pushed by the college to complete my rental agreement(s) and set dates and times for the upcoming Tri Swimming program. So here is the situation.......
As always I first opened registration to past years participants - at this point I'm over 2/3rds full - bout 10 slots left for swimming!!
If you have not been in tri swimming in the past - it is a highly structured swim training program. It covers about 7 months and trains triathletes in a manor simular to competitive swimmers - however unlike traditional masters swim programs there are special considerations for the needs and abilities of triathlete swimmers incorporated into the program.
There will again be a couple of changes this year. First off, the program will move from 14 to 16 dates solid. We will start on HALLOWEEN (this is a treat not a trick) through the first week of May. I want to hit the first 4 sessions in succeeding weeks with a TOTAL focus on stroke mechanics and drills. Nothing else - all workouts for the first month will be relatively short and 90% drill focused. We will then do a T test on 12/5 going into three months of distance focused training. I want to work on low HR, sustained effort swimming - but there will also be an emphasis placed on holding form - lot more info on how this will work once we get started. My general thought is that for all I want to work to build a HUGE aerobic base during the winter - something I have actually not put this group through in the past. I think because we start the program soooo early in the season, this new approach should be beneficial to everyone in the long run, particularly folks considering doing a HIM/IM next year!!! As we get into early spring I want to break the group in two - one side for people who will be "A" racing sprint/oly distance in '11 and one group for people who will be "A" racing HIM/IM - the reason for the break will be to provide different work out tracks that (i think) will better prepare people for their big race.
We will again be using the Oberlin pool and will have a start time of 8 a.m. For those not familure with Oberlin - it is about 35 min from Bay Village and about 30 min from the airport.
Cost for the "Tri Swimming"program will be $180.
So now here is the EXTRA........
With the large number of people 'going long' next year and given that the thursday night trainer series will most likely no longer exist - I'm going to offer a 10 session "Tri Trainer" program. This will entail a 2 hour structured trainer work out on Sunday mornings right after swimming ends. We will have two main focuses for these workouts - 1. developing high cadence skills and 2. establishing aerobic endurance. Class will be for ALL levels of ability - so no one should feel like this is not for them. Actually these type of trainer classes are perfect for new riders as they teach significant skills and no matter your 'speed' no one gets left behind. There will also be a specific progression to the classes, one building on the next so as to have everyone in great shape to hit the open roads in the spring. Class will start on 1/16/11 and will be held in one of the fitness rooms at the Oberlin gym. Start time would be 9:45 a.m.
Cost for the 10 session "Tri Trainer" program will be $80.
If you are interested on Tri Swimming and/or Tri Trainer - please let me know ASAP - I will get you some paperwork (I'm being pushed to have releases completed BEFORE we begin practice). Feel free to share this message/registration with anyone you think might be interested. I will go to a general posting to the CTC Forum in about 10 days.
As always - space will be limited and (hopefully) filled.
Questions please let me know.
Tentative dates
10/31 - swimming
11/7 - swimming
11/14 - swimming
11/21 - swimming
** this is our stroke 'clinic' phase
12/5 - swimming
** 1st T-test
12/12 - swimming
1/16 - swimming + trainer
1/23 - swimming + trainer
2/6 - swimming + trainer
2/27 - swimming + trainer
3/6 - swimming + trainer
** this is our 'over distance' phase
3/20 - swimming + trainer
3/27 - swimming + trainer
4/3 - swimming + trainer
4/17 - swimming + trainer
5/8 - swimming + trainer
** this is our 'sprint/oly OR him/im' focus phase
Again - you do not have to participate in both programs - you pick and choose - swim only, trainer only OR do BOTH!! Because we are starting a couple weeks early this year I need to get registrations and paperwork moving. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested - I will send out more info then. Questions, let me know.
If you are interested in registering for either and/or both programs please email me at rob.reddy@oberlin.edu ASAP and I will get you the required paperwork.
thanks
