Hello all you Ironmen, Ironwomen, and Iron Wannabes, we are trying to schedule a Big Swim from Columbia to Bradstreet Landing in Rocky River for Friday, August 20. Lets figure out a time that works. Who is in?
This is not a race but a training event to get some long swimming done. We can figure out logistics later.
I have been told this swim is anywhere from 1.8 miles to 2.1 miles, so lets call it 1.95 miles.
Update: Lots of maybes tonight at Columbia for the Big Swim. Here are some details, meet at 5:30 at Bradstreet pier, leave some cars there and carpool to Columbia. Leave Columbia no later than 6:15 and swim, swim, swim to Bradstreet.
Paninis afterwards!!!
The Official Big Swim/ Ironman Sendoff Party is Tuesday, August 31. We will meet at 6 at Columbia Beach. Big Swimmers are off at 6:15 to Bradstreet. Little swimmers are in the normal area for their workout. Some of the little swimmers will come to Bradstreet to take the Big swimmers back to get cars and then we all head to Panini's!!!

Ok, so Jason, Mike C., Josh, Katie, Marie and I did the big swim last Friday. Because of the wind, we started at Bradstreet and swam to Columbia. If you have ever wondered what socks in a washing machine feels like, ask any of us. The waves were 4-5' and rolled us for 55 minutes. But the new confidence we feel made it worth it.
Anyone up for the Big Swim this Friday? Let's meet at 5:30 at Bradstreet and carpool to Columbia. Who's in?
This is not a bad workout for the taper!

I'd be in for TBS this Friday! We are talking 5:30 PM not AM, correct?? (I can do either!)
Count me in barring unforeseen circumstances, in which case I'll PM you on Facebook as well as here.

I might be there, too, depending on schedule. If the waves are 4 feet I probably won't partake, though.

I feel like crap and will not be swimming tomorrow evening. I will be there to support you though and take all of you to Columbia so you can leave your cars at Bradstreet.

I did the big swim last Friday and am debating doing it again, but thinking it might be too close to Rev3. I really enjoyed it, though, so we'll see. Depending on conditions I may be in the cove with you Jen.

I'm bringing my wettie. If I'm going to be racing in it in 2 weeks perhaps I should train in it a couple of times?
As far as I'm concerned, there are a few reasons that wetsuits are O.K. for the big swim:
1) you want to train like you race 2) the water temp. is too cold for you 3) you are scared to swim without it 4) you like how it shows off your physique

John Mack and I are coming. I will be wearing my wetsuit, my money is that John will as well. Leaving Mentor at 5 so we are giving ample time to not get snagged in traffic. Look for us! And Brandon, I wear mine primarily to show off my muffin-top BTW, just got my fitness testing done at Lifetime (gotta use the Lifetime bucks or they expire-bogus!) and I was determined to be of "average" fitness. I think the 10 lbs extra I'm carrying negated the fact that I can reach nearly 6 inches beyond my feet on the sit and reach, I ranked above average in upper body fitness, and in the cardio test, they dumped me because my HR was TOO LOW after 5 min.... So, um, yeah ... I have average fitness. It's the muffin-top!! I believe my average fitness will allow me to succeed in my iron distance race though

I will be wearing mine too. Oh well if some say I'm not a 'real' triathlete...it comes down to the run anyways
