Nothing stupid about doing a detox. I just did my first one this fall Didn't do the lemonade fast, but a 3 day juice fast which included 2 days, both before and after the fast, of raw fruits/veggies only. I also drank herbal teas to supplement liver, kidney, blood function etc. The juice fast is less 'stressful' on your body since it gives you more nutrients during the fast. Better idea for an endurance athlete IMO, since we have a hard time resting. The nutrients in the juice help to aide the body to detoxify and since no raw food is consumed the G.I. tract still 'shuts down' and gets to clean house. The most difficult thing is finding the time to FULLY devote to resting the body and letting it heal itself. My side effects were relatively mild, but I figure would have been worse without the juice. Also, I would do it soon before it got too cold...or wait for the spring.

I did a juice fast combined with a colon cleanse a few years ago hoping it would help with digestive problems. I found it to be mildly helpful but was disappointed about how fast my problems came right back. Since then I have changed my diet and found better results.
I have considered trying the fast again. I have a better diet to start with so results of the fast might last, but Brandon is 100% right that finding the TIME to do it is hard and I just haven't found the time. Brandon's plan is an entire week of restricted calories and the plan I followed included 2 one day fasts and a 3 day fast covering 2 weeks.
I would go with the juice instead of lemonade. Buy the good stuff (organic and no extra sugar) or make your own at home. Eat light a couple of days before, mostly fruits and veggies, maybe a small piece of lean meat or fish, but cut the calories way down. And stop drinking caffeine, too. Prepare to be cranky on day one of the fast, but by day three you will feel fine.
Do not fast any more than 3 days without a doctor involved.

Have a look at Jason Vale - he is considered to be the "juice master" has a website and has written a few good books on juicing...Works wonders and felt really good but its sticking to this way of life that is so hard, nothing like a hamburger and a beer..........

For what it is worth.
I did this fast a few weeks ago from Oct 15 to Oct 25.
I went from 183lbs to 168lbs. When I stopped I went up to 170. It has been a month and I am still 170 to 172.
I did not get weaker or lose muscle that I could tell. My weight lifting actuall improved. I saw an
immediate increase in running and swimming speed from the weight loss. I also felt better than
I have in a couple years. I have stayed on a diet of raw veggies and veggie protein. Have
limited "man made " junk food to almost zero.
I plan to do this again. Maybe twice a year doing the whole 10 days. Once a month doing 3 days.
It seems to help the body become more efficient.
For what it is worth it seems like a good thing.

Wow. What results Mike! I wonder about a female though. I know it seems much easier for guys to drop weight! I'm just trying to do so by lifting, training and trying to improve my diet. But maybe this is something to consider...

Mike, is that the one with the Cayenne pepper and maple syrup? yes it is also Jen as for women my wife did it a fews years ago and had similar results fasting in general has many benefits The lemonade fast seems to make it easier and speeds up the detox aspect. My impression is this makes your body more efficient. I know I feel alot better and faster mike

From what I have read, there is no benefit to a "detox" diet. It is just another type of diet. Limiting caloric intake and replacing foods with lean proteins, fruits and vegetables is sensible for any one trying to manage their weight. Going the extra step of fasting for 3 days does not offer any extra cleansing. The body flushes toxins in a very efficient manner. Many people report a heightened sensory experience with a detox diet, but that is usually from lack of calories. Also, they feel better about themselves because they are achieving a goal.
A few years ago it was the Atkins diet. There will always be diets.

I did not have any side effects
I did train but shorten the duration and intensity. Swimming was the only thing I did normal.
also this is for 10 days not 3
3 would not be enough
also it is not a "diet" like atkins
It truly allows the body to get rid of some nasty stuff that builds up in our bodies
The body is forced to burn toxins ect.
I have seen nothing but good things from this. I am saying this based on experience not what I have read.
I plan to do it twice a year.

"Take away my normal diet and I'll be all kinds of surly." Oh, I AM all kinds of surly!! Crabby, cranky and grumpy too. But that comes at the end of the day. In the morning I feel almost euphoric and am in a GOOD mood. By 6 pm - surly! I'm better off just going to bed. Had a swim planned for this evening (but lap swim wasn't until 9pm and I was all Grrrrrrr ... so, looks like I'm up at 5am and heading to the pool in the morning! My "fine" for this is another 1000 yrds. Gotta love the day off when you can workout all day and have no chicklets or family obligations!!

The body is effecient at flushing most toxins out of our body, but not all. Toxins build up over time and may very well lead to many diseases. Keveany, My training suffered big time durring my juice fast. I couldn't really train at all because it made me feel terrible (weak, sick to stomach, lightheaded, etc.) I stuck to yoga and walking after day 2 and that lasted for one or two daysl after I had introduced solid food. I planned the fast during a down time in my training so it was ok. So, apparently folks react differently to the fasting because there is no way I could "train" during a fast as watchman did.

The best explanation of the body cleansing itself during a fast is this;
If you were in the mountains in a house and lost power. If it was the dead of winter and you had no source of heat.
You would burn any wood available, then trash, paper,ect the last thing you would burn would be useful furniture.
The body will burn carbs stored up, then fat, then toxins ect. It will also use muscle last.
Another issue is your intestines. After about 4 days stuff comes out of you that looks like tar. I know this is gross but whatever it is, it is inside you and it sure looks bad. Your body tries to use that stuff as fuel which causes the headaches, dizziness and also some sickness and diseases.
As for training during this. I have done many water only fasts since I was 20. Some for as long as 7 days. So the lemonade fast seems easier. ( It is not easy) Just easier. As for training. Instead of a 5 mile run it would be 2 easy, instead of 1 1/2 hour bike it would be 20 minutes . Weight lifting would be light and low reps. I would not call it training just light exercise.
Brandon I have noticed the more I do it the less the side effects.
There does come a point where instead of being surly( as Tiffany said) you actually feel great. Very clear eyed. All 5 senses seem to increase in a good way.
I am no expert in all this I am just sharing what I know from experience.

I had such good benefits from doing this in October I did it again.
In October I went from 183 to 168 then back up to 172 and stayed at that weight
Well 2 weeks ago I did it with my wife and went from 173 to 161 and am now maintaining at 162 - 164. My goal is to stay below 165.
My wife lost 12 lbs and only gained back 2 lbs.
I want to be lighter to be faster. I have not had 1 bad effect.
I am faster for sure and not weaker in any way that I can tell so I did not lose muscle.
It is amazing how much 20lbs slows you down.
It has made me far more disciplined in my eating.
I feel better than ever.
