So I have a friend with some serious back issues and I wondered if anyone here may know of a good doc I could refer him to. See explanation below.
"After going to physical therapy and it making it worse. I was told that I would just have to live with the pain. That's fine, but I'm tired of being in so much pain and not being able to do things. I don't remember if my orthopedic doc told me I would not be a candidate and even if he did, not sure I would believe him. I have 2 bulging discs. I was talking to my councilman at a party and he told me he had surgery 20 years ago and he plays tennis all the time, etc. I was told to see a neurosurgeon, but who? "

When I had a bad lower back problem (saw several docs, had lots of x-rays...) the physical therapist wasn't able to help me either. The PT refered me to a chiropractor. I was shocked that they were able to help!

I've been seeing my chiro as needed, on and off for over 20 years. He was a swimmer in college so is sympathetic to the athletic lifestyle. He's helped me a lot over the years, with back issues and other sports related problems. He diagnosed my high blood pressure this spring after 2 different doctors at Kaiser missdiagnosed me. He's now getting into laser therapy and accupunture. His pricing is very resonable. He's in Parma Heights, right near Pearl and York. Here's a link to his web site. zymlerhealth.com/

Janet, I know your friend was looking for a neurosurgeon, but I have to plug my chiro also who treats me for nerve and disk issues in my low back. I've had a lifetime of issues with my back and have seen many chiro's over the past 20 years. I've had the best results with my current chiro, who is a recreational runner and even directed a local cross country race for a couple of years. His prices are very affordable and he often runs specials for new patients. His office is located in Streetsboro near the intersection of Rt. 80 and Rt. 480. For me it is well worth the drive to see him. Here is a link to his website: www.onehealthyspine.com/You or your friend can send me an e-mail if you have other questions about his practice. Also, I personally have never seen Tim Keyes but I have heard good things about his work. I had the plessure of meeting him on the run at Ironman Louisville, so I guess you could say he understands the needs of athletes. He practices ART therapy as well as chiropractic. I think he is on the west side.

I don't know if a sports-med doc is the right speciality for this, but Dr. Anne Rex-Torzok and Dr. Tom Torzok are now with the Clinic. They used to have a private practice in Willoughby Hills, and have helped both Jen and I through a variety of issues.

A good neurosurgeon is Dr Blades in Broadview Heights...I'm pretty sure she is part of the UH system. She has done wonders for a lot of my patients who were told by ortho docs there was nothing more to do to help them. They have quick recovery and good results in physical therapy after the surgery.
