Northeast Ohio's biggest multi-sport weekend, The Greater Cleveland Triathlon, is quickly approaching and the club is seeking volunteer support for the weekend of August 8th and 9th at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor. You do not need to be able to volunteer for the entire weekend or even the entire day. There are volunteer needs all weekend long at many different times and for many different tasks, so any time that you are able go give is greatly appreciated! As we all know, without volunteers there would be no race!!
Tentative volunteer needs/times: Saturday Aug. 8th, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. - registration/packet pick-up - registration table - CTC table
Sunday Aug. 9th, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - RACE DAY! - packet pick-up - body marking - transition help - swim course - CTC table - CTC hydration/nutrition station on the run course - awards ceremony
If you are able to volunteer, please send an e-mail to clevetriclub@yahoo.com with your availability. Thanks and see you at Headlands Beach!!

Brandon, On Saturday, I can get the CTC area set up and work it until 10:30 am. On Sunday, I'm volunteering and working with the Snake Bite folks in the transition area. FYI.

Brandon-are you coordinating volunteers for Mickey? I had told him I could help Saturday and Sunday. Just want to be sure I'm not committing to two different things! I'm hoping to help with the kids race Saturday if he needs it and then I can help out Sunday pretty much anytime.

Thanks Mark!! Got you penciled in Sat. morning.
Jen, I wouldn't say I am coordinating volunteers for Mickey, more like recruiting volunteers. What I am coordinating are the CTC table and the CTC aid station. We (Mickey and myself) are in this together :-) You can communicate with either of us, but I will be working with him over the weekend.

Many thanks to all the CTC members who volunteered to support the Greater Cleveland Triathlon and Duathlon this year.
We have had a high level of support for the training sessions, USAT Rules Clinic, bag stuffing, registration and day of race involvement.
We were challenged by the weather and also a large number of first time triathletes.
We did have two athletes who were transported to the hospital. I am happy to report that noth athletes were release the same day. The one female will require follow up medical treatment.
Please mark your planners for August 7 & 8, 2010!

Holy Cow, yeah, the volunteers were awesome.
Snake Bite worked the transition area making sure everyone made it in and out quickly, but safely.
SSSMT was all over the place on the bike course cautioning riders and taking times, yelling words of encouragement.
And the Willoughby South Cross Country Team WOW!!!! I can't say enough thanks to those kids. They worked extremely hard for this event. I am beyond impressed with Matt Luck's team and if they EVER need volunteers I WILL be returning the favor!!!
And to anyone else out there handing out water, directing traffic and just down right cheering for participants....
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to say that, as a Newbie, I had a great time at GCT! I was bummed about the cancellation of the swim, but totally understand that it was the safe thing to do ... I just have a score to settle with that damned lake! That was my first Duathlon and I really enjoyed it! I had a great race and finally got to meet a few of you - putting faces with the names I frequently see here on the boards. I am very grateful to all of the volunteers! My girls did the tri on Sat and had a great experience. I asked my 10 yr old if she wanted to do it again ... she said yes. Then I told her she ages up and next year she does the longer distance. She then said "forget it, it's too hard!" Then she later said she DOES want to do it again. My girls don't seem to have my drive to push and push - yet! And I'm okay with that They had a lot of fun and the 10 yr old got 4th place and that really put a fire under her butt to try again next year. We had a good experience. I DID see a lot of parents that were clueless ... walking in front of bikes, going where they shouldn't be. We have to remember some of them are NOT seasoned racers and to them this is like rec softball or soccer (i.e. "just for fun"), while others (kids and parents!) are here to RACE. So, the hodge podge of individuals can lead to chaos, but my experience with, and observation of. the volunteers was that they were friendly and helpful. I really loved the pre-race motivational speech on gratitude! That kind of got me all emotional! Way to make the most out of the teaching moment!!! Oh, and THANK YOU to the wonderful volunteer (spectator?) that helped me up from my wipeout just outside of transition!!! My chain came off and he put it back on. Who were you?? I would love to buy you a beer, you really helped me out - I was pretty shook up. (I got cut off by some HUGE guy resulting in a bit of a yardsale!) I look forward to this race next year and will look for more opportunities to volunteer. I volunteered at a du/bi race in June and had a ton of fun.

Congrats on the finish, and welcome to the suffering. Check your pain threshold at the door, thanks.
