You probably all know of this scam, because when I eventually followed my gut feeling and googled it, QSI has been around for a long time. But if you don't know - heres some info on what happened to me. This really charming young man arrived on our doorstep saying he was from the neighborhood and going on a football tour. He had to collect money for a charity and they would then provide sponsorship toward the trip. (similar to the charity race places for the big marathons) His dad had told him never to accept anything for free and because of this he and his brother would come around and clean the windows for me this week. Because I'm raising money for "Bright side of the Road" and my windows need a clean I was very empathetic with the teenager, "its tough out there" and gladly sponsored him. He knew the names of the neighbours, told me how generous they had been, knew the names of the local high schools, rattled off kids names that perhaps my girls would know. He had us all laughing at his jokes and wishing him well on his tour. He asked me to make the check out to QSI and not to write charity on the info line as he had to put his name there to ensure that the company attributed the donation to him and not to another kid. I believed I was sponsoring a child at St Jude's for a year. When they didn't arrive yesterday I started doing some research on the net and discovered that the name he had given me was legitimate and he did in fact play football in the village, so left it for another day. Today I googled QSI and discovered all the complaints and that my check was cashed today. So its embarrassing and too late for me, but perhaps I can prevent it happening to someone else. Whilst they were in the village someone alerted the police who took them into the office, but they had all the correct answers and so were just sent out of the village as soliciting is not permitted - I didn't realize that asking for sponsorship is viewed as soliciting??

I used to think I was a good judge of character.
