What best way to sight? Today I swam open water for the first time at Monroe falls. It was first time I really missed the black line. Lifting my head straight up and turning for a breath every other breath really threw we off. Wetsuit worked great. Any sugestions Thanks, BD

I sight in place of a regular breath.
I push down with my right arm slightly, bringing my body up slightly higher than usual and breath forward instead of to the left. I don't know if this is the best way, but it's how i do it after growing up swimming in the ocean and swimming out through the break zone.
I think this is just a matter of trial and error. You'll find what works for you best.

good question - I sight as part of a normal breath stroke - I will start the breath stoke as usual - rotating my head to the side - when the side of the face breaks the surface of the water I lift my head and eyes to the front and sight - as I comlete the body rotation I return my face to the water and continute the stroke as usual - I will only sight every 6 or so strokes

I actually pick my eyes up alligator style then take the breath to the side. I only do this every 6th-10th stroke though.
