I'm training for a half iron man and i would really love some help figuring out what I'm doing when it comes to biking and swimming. I know that sounds bad if I'm doing a half iron man and i can't really swim...but I know I can do it if i learn how to swim now) I live in parma heights so if anyone nearby would like someone to bike or swim with (I guess that would mean you would have to help me get the swimming down first) just let me know. Or if anyone knows where I could take cheap swimming lessons that would be helpful too. thanks!

Sandi,
The South West Aquatic Team is located in Brunswick and will be moving to our summer location in Strongsville at an outdoor 50m pool. We are a club sponsor and have very inexpensive rates. There are many traithletes that train with us and many go for a ride after practice. We also swim on Saturday mornings at a very clean pond in Hinkley, so we can also help you get comfortable with open water swims. For more information, please contact me at gvale@att.net.
Good luck in your training.

Once you get the swim basics down, you'll want to get some open water time in. Check the training page and this forum for open water swims - being a near-westsider, you'll probably want to hit some of the Columbia Park swims...

Sandi which race are you doing? Hopefully it is much later in the season and you are prepared to work hard from now until then.
Like a marathon it is possible to just get through it but believe me it is not a distance to take lightly if you have not trained enough and can be a long painful day if you aren't ready. You also need to figure out your nutritional requirements as that is extremely important for success.
Look back through this forum and you will find a lot of advice and I would definitely find some partners who are in your area to train with.

Thanks for all the help! I will be sure to take in all the advice. I thought the greater cleveland marathon had a half iron but I guess they don't anymore so I'm looking for another one. I'm not scared about the distance. I'm used to exercising atleast 3 hours a day and I run about 50-60 miles a week. I just have to force myself to get the swimming down.
Thanks again everyone!
