GCT Newbies clinic is May 23. I'll be there for the session and look forward to meeting some newbies!
Then, we'll have a bike ride followed by a flat changing session on May 30 starting at 8 AM. Meet at Lock 29 in Peninsula.
Please post here if you will be attending one or both of these, so I know to look for you. Thanks!
Save the date for these future newbies sessions: June 13 - bike followed by run (brick) at N. Chagrin July 12 - Swim, bike and run on Fairport Harbor course August 23 - Trail run, location TBD

Since you just joined yesterday you must not have gotten yesterdays "Blast" email that had the details.
We meet at Headlands State park, in lot #17. I think that is the right lot number, but just head to the west end of the park and look for the cars with bike racks and a tent set up.
Things will get started around 9am. Some people will head out for a ride at 9am, others will stick around for the clinic then head out for a ride after. I will be there to lead a ride after the clinic.

If you plan to attend the Newbie Clinic please send us an RSVP email to NCMultisports@aol.com with you contact info.
We will have some handouts and such for each participant.
You should plan to bring your biking and running gear. There may be some people who want to jump in the lake for a quick swim, but it is still cold.
We will start with the clinic and then a bike ride and a run.
Good Luck and we hope to see you there.

I'll try to be at both for the bike rides - May 23 GCT and May 30 in Peninsula. I put July 12 on my calendar, too!

How long are the rides and runs for these traning sessions? And do you have to be signed up for the GCT to participate?

I can't speak for Mickey's training session, but for the ones I lead, it depends on the group who assembles. I like to ride for at least an hour, but if the group isn't up to it, then we'll ride less.
Brick runs are usually 20-30 minutes and can be done as "out and back" so no one gets lost.

I think we might just go 14 with the newbies. After this past weekend's ride, I don't want to scare anyone away. However, Sam, Hallie and I are meeting beforehand to ride the 18 before going 14 with the newbies. You are welcome to join us. I'm not sure of the meeting time, but can let you know if you are interested.
Kim, Lock 29 is behind the Winking Lizard in Peninsula. If you take Rt. 8 or Rt 271 to Rt 303, once on 303 head to Peninsula. If you are coming from 271, the Winking Lizard will be on the left hand side right after you cross over River Road. Make a left at next light (Akron Peninsula), take a left at the next street and follow it around to parking lot at Lock 29. If it is full there is an overflow lot just past that one.
If coming from 303, I believe you will get to Akron Peninsula before River Road. In that case, you'll see Winking Lizard coming up on the right. Take a right on the road before you reach Winking Lizard. Follow directions above.
For all others, just do a mapquest from your place to the Winking Lizard. I don't know all the ways there unfortunately. Here is the address:
1615 Main St. (Rt. 303) Peninsula, OH 44264

So, who all is coming out on Saturday? Experienced riders are welcome also!
I talked to Mickey (race director for GCT) and he will be there with some goodie bags for those who attend. Great chance to pick a race director's brain too!
Hope to see you all on Saturday!

Jen, I think I'll just do the 14 with you and the newbies. I'm not ready for 18 + 14. Maybe I'll just go a few on my own before the 14. I might run a few slow miles after the 14 if anyone wants to join me.

I'll bring my shoes too. Sam and Hallie have a brick. Looks like we won't be meeting beforehand afterall. It is likely we will tack on another half hour after the newbies ride is over. I may even do flat changing first, so we can drop off whoever wants dropped off and then ride some more before running.

Can you tell me what the terrain of the ride/run will be like?
My husband wants to come with me to the training session but is just starting out and is afraid he won't be able to keep up.

Bike is mostly flat. There is one smallish hill in the beginning of the ride and then two medium sized hills towards the end of the ride. Run is completely flat on the Towpath and can be done at any pace, including a walk. We don't leave anyone behind and this session is geared to new triathletes, so tell your hubby he is more than welcome!

I would like to come out and I am interested in running a few after the ride.
Kim, if you want I could meet you early and we could do another 5-9 miles before they do the 14. If you are coming to the swim tonight, we can talk about it then.

Thanks Jen. I plan on being there and I will pass along the info to my hubby. He shouldn't have any problems with tomorrows workout.
