CTC -
A few days ago some sick individual opened up an e-mail account and fake name with CTC posing as me using the name "triathlon rocks"
This person is obviously very dimented (and very bored) its scary that someone would actually take time out of there day to do this stuff- very disturbing.
"triathlonrocks" you obviously have deep issues with me and rather than going to all this trouble to set up fake accounts and post on CTC and slowtwitch and other sites...why dont you man up and call me- your actions have been cowardly.
and if im correct and my lawyer is correct what your doing is called Slander and is illegal.
If you keep posting as me and I find you believe me I will exhaust every resource I have to punish you using the legal system.
or you can call me and tell me why you are doing this..I really dont know what I did to you and obviously am very curious.

I'm no computer expert by any means...but can't an IP address point out the culprit?

I'm no computer expert by any means...but can't an IP address point out the culprit? Yes and no, depending on if you are spoofing an IP address. On a side note, I find it very immature to create additional accounts for stirring up trouble or poking fun, etc.. On other sites I belong to, if someone creates an additional account for less then a legitimate reason, that person is banned. This should be a standard policy. I normally don't say much, but this is one that bugs me enough not to want be a member of the club (or site) if it continues.

Brooks,
Yes we are getting closer on finding this person, and from what im told this name will be banned not only on CTC but Dan Emptfield from Slowtwitch had banned this account as well.
CTC has expressed great concern to me and they are doing everything in there power to track down and deal with this individual.
I recieved a very nice note from Suzi (our president) expressing how upset she is and she is personally taking time out of her day to stop things like this from happening in the future.
Many thanks to Suzi.
This club has many many very good people dont lose faith / I havent.
Regularly I wouldnt care if someone takes a shot at me personally but when it involves my business and how I feed my family thats where I draw the line.
We will catch this person and my hopes are they get a lifetime ban from the club and its events but thats not for me to decide.
As an update.. I am still yet to get a call from this person...Im not surprised.

I just had an identity theft issue where someone used my info to sign up for a private voice mail box.
I was told that if I report it to the local police that they will release the I.P. address and that yes they can find which computer.
I think if a person uses your name you can go to the police.
Not on slander but fraud
just a thought.
I am just beginning this process on my situation

You are correct this is a fraud issue and yes you are also correct they are willing to help with tracking this person down. / I was surprised to hear they would help! Thanks for the advice - Its now moving forward. Good luck with your situation. Awesome you are further along than I am. my situation is very weird. My Mom calls me and says there was this recurring charge on her phone bill. She called and said it was some internet service. She asked who signed up and they gave my name. When she told me I knew it was a fraud because my middle name is Mike, Which I have always been called. Everything I have official is under my real first name. They signed up my middle name so I knew it was Bogus. My Mom gave me the contact info so I called. The person billed it to my mom's phone number. The address was the one I grew up in and have not lived at since 1985. The real kicker was they asked for my moms maiden name. The name given was not my mom's but my wife's Moms maiden name. There are only 5 people on this planet who know me and my wife's Mother's maiden name. They are all on my wife's side of the family. The service that was signed up for was a private voice mailbox. Two of the relatives on my wife's side have had a history with drugs. I think it is one of them. The company who told me all of this said that they just got a report that said most ID theft issues are by someone you know. sorry for the long story. I am glad you were helped. let us know how it goes. Doesn't it just make you want to to that person? Mike

Mike- I had the same thing with my phone company last year. Sounds like the exact same service too. I caught it pretty late because my bills go out automatically. Thankfully I called the company and they just erased the charges, no questions asked (although it was a pain because it wasn't the phone company I had to call, it was this weird separate deal...) I never did bother to try to figure out who it was, though....

When did this start and how can people avoid having this happen to them. Sorry it happened to some of you but could you give some advice to spare the rest of us going through the same mess?

Shameless commercial plug time from a greedy capitalist who still thinks profits and entrepreneurship are a good thing: On my site www.savebucksongas.com if you go to "all products" then "other" there is an identity theft program "Identity Truth" for ten bucks a month. A lot of people have had their identity stolen and used for things like medical bills, crimes and more. It has to be a horrible feeling to be arrested for a crime someone else committed or receive a hospital bill for a heart surgery but it is happening a lot. This is a good product and cheap insurance against it happening.
