I posted recently on my Facebook page that I was going to a CPR class to recertify which I do every two years. Several CTC members responded they would be interested in a class if I got one together. The husband wife team of Gene and Dina Shimandle and their company ResQ USA have trained thousands and are very passionate about the fact that everyone should know it as the life you save is usually someone with the same last name as you.
They will be doing a class February 28th at 10am in Solon. It is $40 and includes infant CPR for those with babies or one on the way.
Gene tells a story about a business owner he he had solicited for years to train his employees but the guy always said he was too busy or it wasn't a good time. One day he called Gene and scheduled him to come and train his employees. After the class Gene asked why he had finally scheduled it.
The man looked at him and said, "Two months ago I walked out my back door and found my two year old son floating face down in the swimming pool. I ran and pulled him out of the water and he wasn't breathing. As I looked down at my little boy I realized I had no idea what to do to help him and I thought of you." He then softly added with tears in his eyes, "my son died."
Gene has another story that has a happy ending. His best friends wife did take CPR training from Gene and saved her two year old sons life with CPR years ago after an accident in their home.
Most people will never use CPR but everyone should know it. With our triathlon lifestyles the odds we may need to know it are probably better than average. So if you are not certified please do so at your earliest convenience.
Please email dinashimandle@hotmail.com to RSVP with a cc to jackcarneyjr@gmail.com so I can help Dina with scheduling and finalizing a location if we get too many people for Solon. I do not make any money for this I have just become passionate about it as I have become friends with Gene and Dina. If you cannot make that date but still want to be certified let Dina know and we can schedule another time or add you to a class they are doing elsewhere.
