Great tune up for any spring Half Ironman you may be racing. Come out and support a new local Half on a very challenging course. First 5 miles are fast and steadily downhill, but a 4.3 mile steady climb begins around the mile 5 mark before a final 3.5 mile slightly downhill finish. Check out the link below. Registration is only $35 for the Half and $17 for the 5K. But hurry, the first price hike is March 17. Race start is in the Gristmill Plaza just off the Rt 44 exit of Rt 90, 8am Sunday May 31. Who else? I've been getting increasingly panicked blast e-mails from the RD, who apparently didn't expect the turnout he's getting.

The lack of porta potties has me a little concerned, but I'm looking forward to racing tomorrow!

This was a good race. First, we lucked out with what I thought were nearly perfect conditions - high 50s / low 60s and not a cloud. Course: First two miles or so were through the Quail Hollow hunt club subdivision. Relatively flat. Next 3.5 were on the Lake Metroparks Greenway Corridor. It was basically 2 miles at a steady, shallow downhill grade, followed by 1.5 at a steady uphill grade. Miles 5-13 was on Ravenna/Colburn/Crile roads. Some rolling hills. Flatlanders were struggling. This was my longest run since foot surgery in January. I set out to run with Jen, but when she pulled ahead I told her to just go on without me (I am not sure if she heard me). I ended up catching up with her a bit at the end, but I couldn't track her down. I think the race director was inundated with last minute registrations. So we were a little short on some resources - too few poopers and one of the aid stations ran out of water. But generally I thought it was a pretty well run event. I think it'll be even better next year. picasaweb.google.com/just.kelleh/ConcordDistanceClassicHalfMarathon#
