Saw this article on NBC - Miami station last night. Was surprised. I lived in Cleveland from February 2005 - July 2007 and have lived in Miami since. I see a huge difference between the people in Miami and those in Cleveland from an exercise and fitness level. I do not see how Miami can be the fattest.

I was in L.A. two years ago and I made a comment to a co-worker about "seeing no overweight people". The person I made the comment to worked in an office building in dowtown L.A. She laughed and said that what you see on the streets or in touristy public places does not come close to representing the population. She told me that in the highrise building where she works, she rarely sees people who are fit and that when out on the streets in the business districts, its largely the same (no pun intended). So... don't let your South Beach eyes fool you !! ps: People in Cleveland are getting fit because they have lost their job and have nothing better to do... (ouch !).

Fair enough Durno - I saw no overweight folks on Saturday on Miami Beach (ran a short 3 miles) and I saw no overweight folks on Sunday on Key Biscayne (biked 51 miles). I doubt that I will see too many overweight folks when I run the Miami Half Marathon on Sunday.
BUT ...
I have no idea how overweight the folks in inner-city Miami are. I don't venture into that part of the city.
Cleveland is probably improving because you burn so so many calories trying to stay warm - Cleveland is horribly cold.
