Winter officially started yesterday, 12/21! In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the winter season is the day of the year when the Sun is farthest south. This day is known as the Winter Solstice. The day of the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year. The length of time elapsed between sunrise and sunset on this day is a minimum for the year. In the United States, there are only about 9½ hours of daylight on this day. So celebrate that the days are now getting longer!!! Only winter solstice, yet it has felt like winter for a long time now around northeast Ohio which should make for a more interesting POLAR BEAR SWIM!!! Mark your calendars now for Cleveland 6th Annual Polar Bear Swim!Date: Thursday, January 1 Time: High Noon Place: Huntington Beach, Bay Village, OH This is a Club event, so we'll need everyone to sign a waiver before you jump in. Please print, sign, and bring this with you: www.clevetriclub.com/event-waiver.htmlThe Polar Bear Swim is a perfect opportunity to show your pride in your side of town. Participate in the polar bear swim or even a 50 yard swim (for you real die-hards) to show your spirit!! East, West and South side cheerleaders are also encouraged. Break out the signs and body marking!!! At the end of the swim based on your area's participation, one side of town will go down as King of the Polar Bears! NEW THIS YEAR---CTC Post Polar Bear Party at Ben Miralia’s! Directly following the polar bear swim, plan to head downtown to warm up by the fire with some warm drinks and good conversation with friends! Ben’s Address- 425 Lakeside Ave. Cleveland, OH 44113

One of my favorate events of the year. My wife always comes down to watch and makes fun of the whole bunch of us. Last year she said a bunch of people ran into their knees and than came running out. I told her this was all the non CTC members.

Shrivel factor, eh? On Seinfeld, that's refered to as shrinkage. I'm guessing that you'll have to sit down to pee until Jan 3rd after the plunge...

No WAY could you swim 1/4 mile....you'd be luck to get a solid 50 in. It was more a joke about PR's I am sure whatever distance would be fast or a heart attack I need something for my feet everything else was fine but the feet? very painful like standing on ice mike

Okay. I don't totally understand this. But I am all about it.
1. What is the distance, if there even is one. 2. Left the wetsuit back home, supposedly the water temperature is currently 34, sounds like a good way to kill ones self. 3. How many people typically show up for this.

1) There is no distance, although anyone with a pair does at least 2 dolphin dives 2) No wetsuits allowed, and the water is 33....far too cold to kill you 3) Last year we had about 20

Great turnout! There was a traffic jam trying to leave Huntington! Congratulations to all who braved the plunge - the video is out on Channel 5's website.

Saw both Reddy and Gibb get interviewed by Fox 8. Good coverage for the club.
Also saw Rob only went in to his waist! Further analysis of the surveillance footage is needed to confirm this, and detect other infractions of members in attendance.

Aussie What do you think the penalty should be for these infractions of not totally going under?

I would say a do-over, but that will never take.

Also saw Rob only went in to his waist! Further analysis of the surveillance footage is needed to confirm this, and detect other infractions of members in attendance. I heard someone say that Aussie Rob did not go under. I reviewed the video my daughter filmed and sure enough you can clearly see him watching Rob Reddy the whole time. I think his above statement in self incriminating. How can you know for sure he did not go under unless you did not yourself? Busted. I think the penalty should be Aussie Rob vs Rob R. next Friday they will do it again. It will be a race 1/8 mile out and back. We can sell tickets and take wagers. I will bring the heated corn in a body bag they can climb into after. I think I will have to bet on Rob R. What does everyone else think? Which Rob will win? We can film it and play the NFL music that Matt C. used on his video. mike

As much as i hate the cold, Reddy is a way bigger cold fairy than i am Some how I cannot picture a Clevelander being more of a wimp about cold than an Aussie. How cold does it get down under? Rob if you back down or lose we will have to change the "A" in your "Aussie" nickname to a "W". Should we start selling tickets? Who wants to see this? We have one guy in will there be two? mike
