I thought I was doing much better, but I got a 69.7. Same problem as when I was in school. Answered too fast without completely reading the questions and all the answers. I'd be interested to see scores based on the age for those tested. I'd guess the older you are, the better you'd do.

69.70 and when I checked some wondered why I didn't get them right. My bet is that the longer out of school the lower the score.

By the way, in my defense, the president cannot appoint additional justices. Only Congress has the authority to set the number of justices.

I missed the "government by the people, for the people..." question too. I knew that was a line in the Gettysburg address, but I also knew Lincoln made reference to the Declaration of Independence in that speech as well. Which made me think he might have pulled "of...by...for" from the earlier document.

I'm sure they could have yanked a dozen McCain voters out of line who believe President-Elect Obama is a Muslim, or an Arab. Or who don't know there's a difference.

I'm sure they could have yanked a dozen McCain voters out of line who believe President-Elect Obama is a Muslim, or an Arab. Or who don't know there's a difference. The point of this video was not that there are ignorant people or racist idiots like the video Rob posted. The irony is that while they were all fairly ignorant of who was in what position of government they all knew everything about Palins pregnant daughter and instantly attributed any stupid remarks to her even though they were from Obama and Biden who were given a free pass. The media bias is what was pointed out here to me. Not to mention this was one of the funniest videos I have seen.

O.K. peeps, the election is over. Let's call this the "political off season". By now, we all well know everyone's persuasion. I propose no more partisan political discussions on the forum for at least 3 months. Non-partisan issues are O.K. Here is the penalty structure that I propose if anyone can't resist and breaks: First offense: Buy Durno a dozen wings and 3 american beers. Second offense: Buy Durno Winking Lizard ribs and 6 micro-brew beers. Third offense: Buy Durno a new tri bike and a 1/2 case of Dortmunder Gold. I'll drink all twelve beers in less than 2 hours and see if I can ride the bike home without killing myself

Answers to Your Missed Questions:
Question #8 - C. appoint additional Supreme Court justices who shared his views Question #30 - C. decreasing taxes and increasing spending
#8 -- I was working on the assumption that a president wouldn't threaten to do anything unconstitutional, so I go that one wrong...
#30 -- I had difficulty with this one because decreasing taxes and increasing spending increases the national debt, which is a bad thing...

On #30 not really. Typically, how much debt a nation has is somewhat irrelevant, since they borrow it from themselves, to pay for themselves, and when they pay it back, they pay it to themselves. It's like me borrowing money from my bank account to put it in my wallet, and when i pay it back, i take it out of my wallet and put it back in my bank account. The only instance where i think it becomes a real problem (funnily enough where we are now) is when your debt is so massive that other people don't want to invest in your currency anymore, and it devalues on the money markets (like the greenback did recently). The good news about that is, when your currency becomes cheaper to foreigners, so do your exports (they have to buy greenbacks before they can buy US exports) which makes your exports more attractive. When that happens, demand for greenbacks go up so people can buy the cheap exports, which in turn drives back up the value of the currency (like we've seen again recently).
The reason lowering taxes and increasing spending works, is because it puts money to work. The multiplier effect says that for every dollar you put into the economy (through either giving people more money to spend, or spending money on things that employ people) you get it back, plus some (in the USA its typically about 2.5). Example: build a bridge, company contracted to build it hires more help. The new help in turn earns more money that they then go out and spend. Local businesses do better because sales are up and employ more people to keep up with demand. More demand requires more supply, which forces manufacturers to make more and thus employ more...etc etc. When it's all said and done, the money the government spent on the bridge ripples through the entire economy....and everyone does better. That's why WWII pulled the USA out of the depression. It's also the reason Cleveland is in a perpetual state of recession. Some genius a few years ago passed a law saying that Cleveland always has to balance its books....sounds good right? It's not though. The best way to pull yourself out of a recession is to spend your way out, and since Cleveland always has to balance its books.....it can't participate in deficit spending. So it's options are to cut costs (reduce services, lay off cops etc), which ultimately only continues the downward spiral.
Economic theory is cool as hell. It's just a pity that the practical jobs available to economists aren't nearly as exciting (to me anyway), which is why i changed majors.
