I am getting ready to head down to Virginia to attempt my second DOULBE IRON distance. The race is Saturday and Sunday and I am looking to end on the other side of 36 hours this year. It will be tough as my #1 crew members will not be with me. My husband will be doing his best, but he is neither a runner or biker. Hopefully my daughter will help and run a lap or so with me. The weather looks good, we expect it to be the same as last year. Hopefully not as hot. For those who asked the website is www.usaultratri.com but I can't promise you timely updates. The RD does try to post information and updates but as the race goes on he gets very busy greeting every racer at the finish. Last year the RD delivered email messages to the racers, that was nice. Remember there is also a TRIPLE IRON that starts on Friday. Arthur from England is 70! Can you belive that? My husband will be checking the forum for all the good wishes as he can. Amy H will be home and will post updates fed from my husband via cell. Those two will be on the phone alot I'm sure, as will my coach. So keep sending me good vibes as I will especially need them come Sunday during the 2nd marathon (don't remember much of that from last year). And send my good hubby some good vibes too, Its just as hard to crew. The crew is responsible to feed, monitor and hydrate you. They have to be the bad guy and kick you in the butt when your not moving as fast as you need or not hydrating properly. thanks for all your well wishes!! time to stuff the van Double Debbie

Amazing indeed. I can't even do a half without dying. Just look at the numbers: 4.8 mile swim 224 mile bike 52.4 mile run 281.2 total To put it into perspective. This is farther than swim/bike/running from Cleveland to Cincinnati (250 miles).... or to Rochester, NY (275 miles).... or to Cumberland, MD (255 miles). Most of us don't even like DRIVING that far !

Well, the double is under way this morning, and Debbie is just over 1/2 way through the swim. According to her husband, all is well. Temps are cool now, but will get warmer as the day goes on. The triple racers started 7 am yesterday, and as of 7:45 this morning, 1 of the teams is already to the run, and the others not far behind. I will update later - but my son is selling Boy Scout popcorn - and we are selling this morning? Any one interested in a case or two of microwave popcorn? Amy

9:15 tonight and Debbie is at mile 140 of the bike.
Sounds like they will have a cool night - it's already in the mid 50's, so should make for some great biking.
She should be off the bike around 3 in the morning - in case anyone is up that late!

Last spoke to Debbie's husband around 4. She still had 12+ miles left on the run - and time was going to be tight. Her hubby had just ran 10 miles with her - and for a guy that never runs - he did a great job!
Since then - their cell phone died - and I have not heard anything more. Worst case - they should let her finish (they are not quite as mean as those Ironman guys). Best case - she finished - headed to the winery for the banquet - and has no idea who I am or what town she lives in. ;D

Feeling pretty good this morning although i havent gotten out of bed much either! I have a 11:30 doctor appt today so I'll get moving soon. Had a bad cough all night again, i'm sure i have broncitist and so i'll get that zapped right away.
The back pain seems to of supsided and knees and legs feel fine, just slow getting up. THe biggest pain is the toes. Really just two big blisters under the nails and ankles a little swollen.
looking forward to Marcella's massage tonight. going to brave the stairs and upload the pictures my daughter took, should post them soon.

Back from Doctor, I have Broncitist and hopefully the drugs will knock it out fast. Pictures are uploaded www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=7uk0sqt.1qcnk4x1&x=0&y=opftv9&localeid=en_US remember a 10 year old took most of them, that is why there are pictures of dogs and trees, etc. She did an excellant job! I don't think Hubby could stand it if I did the Triple. He did an excellant job so I guess I'll keep him. I owe him big. They say the Triple is easier because you have to sleep. Sleep was not an issue with me this year. I think there was one or two times where I thought I'd fall asleep but you fight it off, take caffene and suck it up. No plans for next year since I've signed up for IM Moo, but there is talk of perhaps doing as a team, not sure triple or double. Who knows. but no plans are made during recovery.
