Greetings! I thought it was time to do an official intro myself - My name is Nicky, I am a 35yo mother of two awesome little girls and I just got into tris this summer. Started training in the spring and did 3 sprints this summer, hope to finish out at Portage on Sunday. I never exercised before so this has been a big stretch for me, but I have really enjoyed it and I hope to maybe train up to oly by next summer. Finding the time to train (and the babysitters!) is my limiting factor. I am a definite BOP-er - I just ran my first under-30 minute 5K this weekend so I need to really improve my runs in speed and distance. i would love to train with some other east-siders (we're in the heights) sometime but i worry about holding everyone back! I am also thinking of swimming with the HB masters group this winter. I would love to meet some other CTC-ers at Portage - I went to my last race alone and it was kind of lonely!
I guess that's about it - I hope to make the picnic this month, too!

Welcome, There is a growing number of us here in the heights. Get some CTC gear this winter. It really helps to break the ice by being identifiable on the race course. The people in CTC really support each other. In many ways the friends I have made in CTC have done more to help me realize my tri dreams then any other part of my life.

Welcome Nicky! I'm a 33yo mother of two boys. I started tris in the fall of '06, but have only done sprints so far, too. I decided to start extending my training with the running first (doing the Akron 1/2.) Maybe next year I'll try an Oly tri like you. Good luck at Portage Lakes! I can't make it there - but I'll be at the CTC picnic on Sept 21.

I live in the heights, too! And I am thinking of swimming masters at HB on occasion, in addition to my regular swimming with Orange practice group. Every time I swam at HB last winter there were only a few people so you will be able to get some very personal attention.
Also, if you have time to get away from the house on Wednesday evenings, a group of us run trails at North Chagrin reservation at 6:30.

Welcome Nicky! I'll hopefully see you at the HB pool (I'll be the slow one).

Welcome Nicky. Dittos to what Charlie and the others have said. There is a lot of knowledge and support here and don't worry about being slow there are people of every level here and no one is judgmental. Most trainings can be set up so you are not left behind and the trainings are designed as loops or out and backs so if you are behind you will not be lost. As you meet people you will figure out who is your speed and lives near you and you can develop training partners. Look forward to meeting you at the picnic.
