Ok, long and short. I can not get rid of my poison ivy, as I have had it for five days now.
Trying to avoid going to my family physician to get another perscription, that he gave me a month and a half ago for the same thing...... Why should I waist insurance and my own money for this? $100/-$10 copay, a bit overkill for something so minor...........
Is there a simple cure, that may work, that I have not already tried in the past..........

I haven't had poison ivy in a long time so I'm not sure if any changes have been made to the product, however, I have used Ivy Dry in the past. If I remember it was difficult to find but it worked. It does stain so make sure that you wait until it is COMPLETELY dry before getting into bed or putting clothes on. Or just make sure everything is pretty dark so you can't see any stains. Good luck!!! Remember itching is what causes spreading and reinfection - so NO ITCHING!!! www.ivydry.com/index.htm

Okay first off there is no quick cure. I work for summit county metro parks and have it all the time. Your best bet is time. Make sure that you wash all clothes and anything else that you may have touched while you were contaminated. Including the often over looked seat of your car. you need to take a shower and wash with a good soap, dish soap works great because it breaks down the urosol (sp) oil. One product that seems to kind of help is called Technu. Once you have fully cleaned up you do not need to worry about giving it to anyone else. That juice in the blisters will not transfer it. If you just can't take it the only other option is the doctor. Do not try the old bleach method as that will just damage your skin.

I am just now getting over a nasty course of poison ivy myself. After a few days of torture I started applying Ivarest generously (and often) and that cleared it up after a few days.
Between the trail running and mountain biking, I feel like a kid all over again with bee stings, bug bites, scrapes & bruises and poison ivy! Blah, thank goodness the fun factor far exceeds dealing with these issues!

I heard Mark D. say something about curing it by taking a bath in beer and eating hot wings at the same time.

Thanks for the advice all! Good thing for me, I never itch the crap! Yet, it still likes to spread! Tecnu/Technu, was new and I tried it.... Nothing great, yet it helped...... Brian p.s. Aussie, I think not!

i am very sensative to poison ivy, the thing about poison ivy is that the more you are exposed to it, the more sensative you become to it. mine actually becomes a systemic infection and just starts to pop up everywhere. i have some sauve the doctor gave me a while ago, if i see a blister starting i hit it with that. if it starts getting everywhere, i have had to take prendisone in the past. so depending on how sensitive you are to it, you may want to see the doctor. i havent found anything over the counter to kill it when it spreading. good luck!

Brenda,
Its not fun, no matter what the severity might be..................
Never had it when I was young, and about 10 years ago I got bad....... So, as you mentioned, once you see it start, make the effort to treat it early and stop it in its tracks.....
It's going away, without the visit to the doctor, and I would say I am almost in the clear......... ;D
For me, I always allow my body to try to fight off what ever is affecting me as a whole. Try the local drug store, homeopathic remedies, and if it persists, off too the Doctor I go!
