It may be late notice, but Jess and I are planning to head out to West Branch for an open water swim followed by biking the race course. We'll be arriving at West Branch Beach around 9-9:30AM. We'll probably swim for 30 minutes or so and then head over the the mountain bike trails for a lap of the race course. Here's a Google Map of the beach location. Here's a Google Map of the mountain bike trail location. Drop me an email if you want my cell phone number or have any questions - brett at bwilms dot com

I would rather do this but I signed up for the ncn summer sprint so I could use my new tri bike in an actual race, could you post trail conditions after your ride as I may make the trip up later for a lap around.

Will do. The OMBA trail conditions board still says it's a little sloppy in some places, but I'm guessing those are the trouble spots that just don't dry, no matter how much sun and heat we get. Have fun at the race.

The swim was great. I'm guessing the water is in the mid 70s. No wetsuit here. If you get out to West Branch beach before 10AM on the weekends you pretty much have the beach to yourself without to much wake coming from the boaters.
The bike was another story. The Lakeside was sloppy with deep muddy ruts throughout. There was a lot of dry fast singletrack, but it was overshadowed in my mind by the fact that the mud I rode through ate my derailleur for a mid-morning snack. The Southside wasn't as bad but it had some wet spots as well.
Hopefully with a few more solid days of sun and heat at least a few of these trouble spots will be dried up. With luck, we'll see you for the Thursday ride.
