Thought I was signing up for Greater Cleveland Tri on August 10 and ended up signing up for the August 3rd event not realizing there are 2 triathlons that sound too similar for my pea brain apparently. I just figured I had the wrong date and registered for the earlier one. Is there a major difference between 1 triathlon or the other especially for attempting my first Olympic distance? just wondering. Thanks!

Should be noted, for those of you who aren't aware, that the subject of this article is also the RD for the Cleveland (downtown) tri. (Of course, the poster is the RD for the GCT )

I didn't to the August 3 race this year because the entry fees were getting to be too pricey for my taste. However, if it were not for that, I'd probably do it again because it's about 25 minutes from my house and I love the convenience factor. I also like the deep-water start and the tightly-looped course that enables me to see more of the other people racing. However, the hills on the Shoreway are wicked.
That being said, from what I've heard, the Greater Cleveland Triathlon is the better race. If it weren't so far from my house, I'd choose it without a second thought.

Sarajean, it's really not that bad of a drive race morning. If you can afford the fee, you should do it. I"d offer to pick ya up,... but I can't do it this year. I have to be downtown the Heart Walk this year since I got that award last year. bummer

Okay, I'm new to CTC and getting back into Tris after a 15 year hiatus (in which I birthed 3 children). In my 20s I did the Cleveland Tri. I also JUST figured out there are 2 tris, in back to back weekends, August 2nd & 9th ... I, too, thought I wrote the wrong date down. Too bad these names are so similar I'm sure they'll both lose/gain people through error with the name. Anyway... I live in Mentor. I'm having (delusional?) thoughts about trying to do BOTH ... am I insane? That's my first conundrum, the second is, do I do a shorter distance (sprint) for the first one, then shoot for Olympic distance, vice versa? Or is it INSANE to think I could do Olympic distance in back to back weeks?? I'm getting a sense that most of you don't think the Cleveland Tri (8/2) is all that ...? I'd appreciate feedback Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me!!

Some people race back to back weekends all the time, others only race a couple of times a year. Really depends on the person. Can YOU handle it (both physically and mentally). I wouldn't bat and eye at doing a sprint one weekend and an Olympic the next, and I am not insane But a few years ago I wouldn't have even considered it. Alison

Okay, I read the previous threads and now have a pretty good feel for what the general consensus is! I think I'm going to just go for it!! Olympic distance in both - do my best and hang on for dear life!! I'm pretty stoked about it actually I'm sure I'll learn a lot through trial and error!
