Please note that the Greater Cleveland Triathlon in conjunction with CTC will be hosting the first of three training sessions on Saturday, May 24th, at Mentor Headlands State Beach Park. Regular training session starts at 09:00 AM the Clinic will start at 9:15 AM.
The clinic should last approx 45 min to 1 hour. You should plan to bring all your gear and then do a workout.

This is a must-do for the newbies! Some of my fondest memories of my newbie year are from Mickey's GCT sessions. I think I went to all of them!
Sadly, I will be in southern Ohio getting my butt handed to me at the Triple T for this one, but I encourage all that can make it to go to this session!
:-)

Is the water still too cold or does this training include an open water swim (YIKES!)??
What does the workout include?

The workout includes whatever you want to make of it. We would usually ride the 1/2 IM course and run part of the run course. Other people would do the sprint course. Now that it's a 2 loop course I'm sure people will do 1 or 2. When I went some crazies did go for a swim after the brick. Really what you need to do is post the workout that you want to do and see who else wants to do it. Mickey has a nice transition clinic in the morning, usually with some free samples of stuff from sponsors and some gatorade, then you're on your own.

I participated in a handful of tris last year in southern Ohio (that was my first year), and now I'm new to the area and the CTC club. Is this clinc / training something I can still attend? (I still consider myself sort of a newbie.) I'd like to get to meet other people from this area. Is there a fee for the clinic? Do I have to have already signed up for the GCT? (I haven't signed up for that one yet.) thanks

Kim- Everyone is invited to the clinic. There is no fee and you do not need to be signed up for the race to participate. Welcome to the club.

lots of good stuff at the GTC training days - for both new and experienced triathletes.
the may session - well the lake is cold - people have swum but not many. mostly a bike and run focus.
june & july sessions have all three sports going on.
this event is open to anyone as mentioned before - but would highly encourage people to become CTC members as "possibly" mickey will offer a race entry discount to paid CTC members
these are always fun days

Hi,
So this question is going to show just how much of a naive newbie I am! If the workout comes after the training session, what will we do during it?
My first triathlon is a sprint on June 15, in DE, so I just wanted to know whether coming to a training session for the GCT one would still be beneficial...
Thanks!

Heather,
If you plan to attend the Newbie Clinic at the first training session we do the clinic first which is a lot of discussion of what to expect on race day.
After the clinc, you will have time to swim, bike , run and part of the training session.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend the clinic.

When do you need to have the RSVP by?

I have a question. If I read correctly, a training group will go off at 9:00am, while a 2nd group will attend the training session (if desired) at 9:15? Is this correct.
I wish to come for the ride and run, and not the newbie clinic.
Thanks for any feedback

Mickey likes an RSVP so he can have appropriate numbers of handouts and goody bags, but you can still show up if you forgot or have not RSVP'd. Everyone is welcome and it's free.
Show up at 9, or a little before, for the training ride/run.

Mickey,
I have been trying to RSVP to the e-mail address you left in your post, but the postmaster keeps sending it back.
If you read this, I am planning on attending the bike and run on Sat. morning.
Thanks

I think the e-mail address is supposed to be spelled triathlon, which is why it isn't working. Use GCTriathlon@aol.com instead.

Is there help for those of us that don't know the course or what exactly to do that day? I plan to come for the newbie clinic and then workout after but no idea what to do (other than bike and run) but as far as how much, etc.

I'm planning several rides at several times over the olympic and sprint courses - see the training opportunities section above...

jen and other newbies
there ill be a fair number of people at this training - so ya someone can help you around. Mickey will be there and I'm sure will have directions and advice - the course is marked on the bike just need some instructions on how to follow the arrows.
like mark said - some of us will be doing loops - he posted some leave times in the training thread so you can figure out when to latch onto a group
just come out and have some fun - things generally work out - if they dont oh well ;]

Just be sure to chat with people - let them know your goals (in brief) and skill level. Folks can point you in the right direction as far as who to ride/run with and how much to do. This is the kind of training where you can meet some of your future training partners and great friends!

I wasn't able to make the 1st session and newbie clinic. When are the next sessions and where? Am I able to attend even though I didn't make it to the 1st session?

I wasn't able to make the 1st session and newbie clinic. When are the next sessions and where? Am I able to attend even though I didn't make it to the 1st session? Session #2 is Sat. June 21. I think session #3 is Sat. July 19. Yes, I'm sure you can attend these sessions even though you didn't make it to the first one. They take place at Mentor Headlands at the west end of the beach / parking area.
