I have to ask, those of you bothered by it.....why not just scroll on by it? No one is forcing you to read it.

GENERAL BOARD
"You can talk about anything here"
Is a poll to decide if we should yank the president thread really the best use of our time. If so, my suggestion to the CTC Board is that they amend or clarify what we are permitted to discuss on the general board.
I would love to write more, but I find it difficult navigating the fine line that the censors have recently imposed on this forum.
So I will finish with this: please get out and enjoy your training a little more / and worry about censorship a little bit less.
Thanks!

I would also note it is the most viewed thread by far and wonder why it would be pulled or why that would even be considered? Leave it go and let people talk. Those who dont like it please take Robs advice. There is no rule that says you have to read every thread.

Has anyone else noticed that guests can no longer start threads or respond to ones in progress? Thank you "anonymous" for pointing this out to me today. I hadn't noticed.
I guess someone will have to explain to Mickey, Sherman, and Sherman when he posts as Bike Authority and all of our other sponsors that they are now censored as well.

I stopped reading that thread a while ago. However, it should stay for the reasons stated above. I do have one editorial:
In my humble opinion, Nathan wins the long standing award for "whiniest bi tch on the forum" !!

I guess someone will have to explain to Mickey, Sherman, and Sherman when he posts as Bike Authority and all of our other sponsors that they are now censored as well. I'm not sure why this is a big deal. Forums such as Slowtwitch don't allow anonymous responses. While we all enjoy the right of free speech, people are less likely to flame another person or put up some random, weird post (e.g., guy with Anchorman avatar) if they have to register. As for the president thread, we're not trying to censor it. It is just that most of us are tired of hearing what 5 of you have to say to each other. How hard is it to take your conversation into an e-mail? You can say that we can just not view the thread, but that doesn't work for people who just view the forum by reading the most recent 50 posts.

The poll was not intended to help decide whether we should delete the thread. We have no plans to delete or freeze it. I guess I should have stated that in the beginning.
I just wanted to gauge the forum users' thoughts on topics, like this one, that are discussed on the thread and are not tri-related. We were thinking about splitting the general forum into tri- and non-tri related so people could find things more quickly. Since I don't see or talk to everyone individually that often, I turned to the poll feature. In hind sight, I should have just asked if people liked the idea of tri- and non-tri general sections. Live and learn...

Mark,
Feel free to donate my prize for the whiniest bit%% on the forum to anyone you choose.
For the record, there is completely separate forum of about 10 CTC members that correspond offline. When grievances are aired, I am always the one who is nominated to post on the forum. Why, because of "personal attack" posts like yours above.
Mark, I believe I have met you only once or twice at Rob's swim lessons and you seem nice enough. So I won't hold your last comment against you.
If you would like to talk about this offline, my email is ndburke at hotmail dot com.

nathan is correct - there is a group of us who communicate via email off line all the time - the discussion is AWESOME - some times vulgar and rough - but in its own caveman sort of way civil - more than anything we have all remained fridnes even when we disagree violently
we all know eachother so maybe that is why we can exchange ideas the way we do - i think it is also a testiment to the people involved because we remain good friends even when we have a good smack down
we welcome anyone to join in but no bitchin
And Nathan - you get to be our voice to the forum because you are the most eloquent - hell i can barely spell my name - no way i could post like you do

Regarding my bi%$h comment - I was laughing when I wrote it. I do like to "call 'em as I see 'em". Nothing personal mate - just an observation.

"It is done" was something my painting Prof would often tell me.
I am one of the yes votes for freezing the thread. Not because I favor censorship in any way. I just feel that the conversation had run it's course. I feel that it has provoked many more discussions. Most of which have little to do with triathlon. Obviously the conversation is important to those of us that have continued to participate. I think the descussions should continue, just in a new form.
I like the idea of a tri specific board and a non tri board. If it is possible, I would like to see a category for tri gear. Just a thought.
One more thing. In the school yard I grew up in, if you dish it out, you have to expect it. I think most of the trash talk tossed around is friendly in nature. Generally if I take offense to the comments of others, it is because I am acknowledging the truth in the criticism. When I am not comfortable with who I am I work on change. It is not always comfortable, but is most likely what I need.
That is all for my St Paddy's day drunken rant.
