This was sent to the club email. Looks like HFP's Caeser Creek International Distance on 7/10 is one of the qualifiers. Press Release #11 "BEST OF THE US AMATEUR TRIATHLETE COMPETITION" INSTITUTES PASSDOWN SYSTEM (St. Paul, MN - 2/28/05) To ensure that every state is represented at the "Best of the US" Championship at the Timberman Triathlon Festival in Gilford, NH on August 20, "Best of the US.." organizers are instituting a "5-deep Passdown System." This means that the top 5 male & female resident amateur finishers at each state qualifying event will receive questionnaires that they'll submit via e-mail or snail mail to the "Best of the US..." office. Each questionnaire will ask for contact information, a competitive bio etc. This information will allow "Best of the US.." personnel to stay in touch with athletes and to notify the "next in line" if the athlete that finished ahead of them is unable to attend the Championship. According to "Best of the US..." PR Director, Jerry MacNeil, "Qualifying events will attract deeper fields if elite amateur athletes know that they don't necessarily have to win the race in order to advance. If they crack the top 5, there's still chance they'll get to go to New Hampshire."
