1. Don't go swimming in Lake Erie alone unless there are lifeguards present or you have a friend/family member on-shore watching out for you. It isn't worth the risk.
2. Totally your personal preference. Get in and see how it goes.
Stay safe!

I agree with Jen... don't swim alone... there are some rip currents in the lake that take people by surprise. With the full wetsuit you can swim in pretty cold water.... without the wetsuit I have read that you risk the chance of lowering your core temperature in water less than 60 degrees F. Wearing the scuba hood will help alot to preserve body heat. When your hands and feet are numb it is time to get out soon. WE have some nutty people in the club that swim in Jan.... without wetsuits. Although I am not sure they would call it swimming. Hee hee. ANGIE

I agree with Jen... don't swim alone... there are some rip currents in the lake that take people by surprise. I agree with Jen and Angie. Last summer, I got caught in a rip current when I was trying to swim out to meet the open-water swim group. They didn't know I was coming, so it was like I was swimming alone. After I escaped the current, I hurried back to shore and kept out of the water for the rest of the evening.
