I have a few questions.
Can anyone register for a 70.3 triathlon, or is their some type of qualifications?? Are they're any 70.3 tri's that is open to the public? Which ones??
I keep hearing about a cut off time to complete the race. Is it the same for all 70.3 triathlons, if so what is it??
I'm not doing a 70.3 no time soon. Maybe a few sprints and Olympic triathlons next season.
thanks

The 70.3 races are qualifiers for the 70.3 championship, which was held last week in Florida. I think anyone can sign up for one of the qualifiers, though.
Ironmanlive.com has a 70.3 tab with more info about the series.

The first triathlon that I ever participated in was the Florida 70.3. Very fun, very hot and very difficult for a first race. So to answer your question about qualifying, there is no list of qualifications. Anyone can log onto the race website, plunk down a few hundred bucks and get in. I don't think there is a standardized set of cutoff times but it usually goes along the lines of: Swim cutoff 1:00-1:30 after the last swim wave, Bike Cutoff 5:00 from the last swim wave, Run Cutoff 8:00 from the last swim wave. Best suggestion would be to take it slow, build up a good base and then take on a long course if you feel so inclined. I must warn you though, the long course races are more addictive than the short course races. Have fun!!

This is from the Eagleman 70.3 site. TIME LIMITS:
All triathletes must be capable of swimming at a 50 min/mile pace, running at a 10 min/mile pace and cycling at a 14 mph pace. Swim cut-off is at 1hr/15min. and will be enforced, the bike cut-off is 5:30 from your race start, and to complete the EagleMan Ironman 70.3: 8hrs/30min.
My 1st was 6:35, and I am not fast. They give a healthy, trained recreational triathlete enough time to finish.
