My first post, nice board!!!
2 things
I'm looking to compete in some events next year ((triathlons)). My first question is. Besides running, riding a bike and swimming. What other exercises I can do in the off season?? Should I lift weights, run hills, or maybe stairs? What else can I do to build strength and endurance in my legs??
I need to find a place to take swimming lessons in north eastern Ohio.
THANKS!!

Core strength is very important for all three disciplines, so join a pilates class or grab one of those big balls and start crunching, etc.
Lifting weights is also popular in the off season - do some searching online or at a book store and I am sure you will find some good "moves" for triathletes. As far as running hills - always good to incorporate into an overall plan, but it depends on what you are training for or what your goal is.
As for swimming, check out a Masters Program (http://www.ohiomasters.com/ohioswim.htm) and if you are looking for a few one-on-one sessions, email some of the coaches listed here and I bet they can direct you to someone good (Laura Kessler is great, but not sure if she is still giving lessons).
Good luck!

Good Luck! I just finished my first year of tri's and I cannot wait til next year. The most important thing in the beginning is to take it s-l-o-w. You have a long winter ahead and no reason risking injury or burnout. All the YMCA's have pools but do not offer lessons. The masters programs are really helpful after you get a good base of endurance. Get a bike now and save money. Depending on your goals, you do not need to get the really expensinve bike to start out. I found mine on Pricepoint.com for around $300-$400 and it is working out well. Cycling is the key. Be fast there and you can do well. Survive the swim, crush the bike, cruise on the run. Hope to see you at some races next year.

LEAH NYIKES also gives swim lessons in the area. I think that some people in the club have worked with her. Here is her website. www.liquidlifestyles.net/BIO.htm
