I am pleased to announce that our weekly Newbies run on Tuesday night will be changing to a Newbies bike ride starting April 25. Now that the weather is nicer, it is time to brush up on (or learn) bike handling skills as well as gain valuable time in the saddle. We will also occasionally change a tube for the practice.
Meet Samantha Blight and me on Tuesday nights at the parking lot by the picnic shelter at SweetWater Landing of the Rocky River Reservation around 6 PM with a launch time of 6:15 PM. We will ride the Valley Parkway, which does have car traffic, but few traffic lights. Plan to ride for 60-90 minutes. You are welcome to go less or more. It is an out and back ride on a straight-forward road with no turns.
Both Newbies and experienced riders are welcome. The more the merrier!
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at ctcnewbies@yahoo.com. Also, if you'd like to RSVP for the ride, so we don't accidentally leave without you, post here or e-mail me.
Thanks!
Jen

The weather is looking cold and rainy tomorrow night. I'm going to keep an eye on weather.com. If you had planned to join Sam and me, please check here tomorrow to see if the ride is still happening. I will post by 3 PM. On an unrelated note, check out the new page off of the newbies page that has pics and bios for most of my committee. Here is the link. www.clevetriclub.com/newbies-profiles.html Enjoy!

It looks like it will be dry tonight. Cold, but dry. I've got my bike in the car. Who will be joining us? Dress warmly!

OK, so cold temps are not your thing. Thank goodness for my co-leader Samantha! I'm not sure I would have gone the 90 minutes without her! Sure, our toes were frozen and numb, but we still had a lot of fun. Hope the weather is better next week and more of you (or any of you) will join us!

It was a GREAT ride! Sure, it took 2 hours for me to feel my toes again, but that's half the fun!
Hope to see more folks next week!

It's raining, but we are still planning on riding. It could rain on race day, right? However, if it is pouring or storming (thunder and lightening), we won't be riding. Better to be prudent and live to ride another day!

Hi! I e-mailed you (Jennifer) about last week's ride and you encouraged me to stop by and meet everyone even though I couldn't join you for your ride. (I don't have a babysitter, and we agreed that with the unfriendly drivers in the park, it wouldn't be a good idea to have my baby trailer on the road.) I tried to find you guys, but the only group of cyclists I could find said they weren't part of the Cleveland Tri Club.
I'll try to get down there around 6:00 tonight to say hello, but I won't be working out because I don't want to be dragging my baby trailer in the rain. Is the picnic shelter to which you're referring the one overlooking the river on the end of the parking lot that's closer to the entrance (and farther from the restaurant)?

Hi Sara!
Yes, the picnic shelter is all the way at the furthest end of the drive--near the restrooms and swing set.
I'll be there at 6. I drive a red Chevy Blazer and Jen has a silver Rav 4. I'm not sure if anyone else will be joining us.
See you then!
Sam

Okay, so the possibility of rain isn't your thing either. The rain held off just long enough for Sam and me to get our ride finished. Hope you will be joining us soon! Remember, newbies and experienced are both welcome!
Sara Jean, it was nice to meet you and your son. Hopefully, you can join us for a run soon!

Okay, so warm, sunny and beautiful is not your thing either. What do I need to do to encourage y'all to come join us? Is there anything specific impeding you from attending?
I won't be there next Tuesday, but Sam will be. After that, I plan to change the meet time to around 6:15 PM with riding happening at 6:30 PM. I work downtown and the traffic is too bad to meet any earlier. Many of you may share this problem. Hope to see you soon!

That's definitely my problem in getting out there. It's hard for me to get out of work early enough (and I have to get home first to feed the dog and I live on the east side). Maybe I'll try to get off work early on Tuesdays. It does sound like fun and I absolutely love cycling! I also have a great route through Middlefield (30, 40 and 50 mile loops), so if anyone is game on a nice sunny weekend I'd be happy to lead a ride.

Jodi, I actually ride through Middlefield on a lot of my bike rides. I am still trying to come up with more ride alternatives out there. So I am definitely game to try out a weekend ride or evening weeknight ride out there.

This is the route that we took last week: www.johnstork.com/middlefield.pdfWe did the 40 mile loop and it was a perfect balance of hills and flat areas to keep it exciting. And there is a gas station around mile 20 to refuel. The next week or so will be bad for me, but then I'm game for some rides.

Thanks for the map, Jodi. I will definitely have to check some of these roads out as many of them are ones I have not been on.
Whenever your schedule opens up, I would be up for some rides.

Another east side option is to join the Cleveland Touring Club. They have rides out your way all the time. Check it out at www.clevelandtouringclub.org. And, of course, check our website and forum for additional training sessions coming soon!

OK--total west sider here....Jodi and Janet I would be interested in heading your way sometime, but, um, I have no idea where Middlefield is...?! My school year winds down in about 3 weeks (!) so I will have more time to be able to travel for rides. There are very few hills over here (sigh) and I really need to hit them regularly, so I'd love to meet up with you. Janet--you've got my # so maybe you can give me a call if you guys head out and I can meet you! Looking forward to doing a newbies ride on the West Side soon, too! Hopefully I'll see Jen and Samantha there and others this Tuesday!

Sara, I need to ride hills too. After my marathon is over, we should hook up for some east side rides on the weekends. "Sunday in June" is in Middlefield on June 11 and it is a nice course with good food. It is Amish country, so last year, Suzi and I felt a little self-conscious in our spandex. It was still fun to see the buggies (although they do cause buggy ruts in the road). Jen

Sara, I will definitely keep ya posted!!!
Jen, I have actually been considering joining the Clev Touring Club for some rides. I was hoping to do that Sunday in June ride as it seems to have good reviews. Unfortunately it is the same day that I am planning on doing my first tri ever which will be the new one at Clay's Park. Bummer!
Oh and not only do buggies cause ruts in the road, you must also pay close attention so that you don't end up with a dirty, stinky bike!!!!!!!!! Not cool, trust me!

Change of plans....Well I was planning to skip the Sunday in June because I wanted to get in a sprint tri down at Clays Park which was the same day. However Champ racing just announced a new closer tri June 25 (The SummiTriathlon @ Monroe Falls) that I will do instead of Clay's Park which will free me up to do the Sunday in June Ride!! I was just wondered if anyone else was doing the Sunday in June and if so what distance 25-50-65-100??

Well, it's not looking too pretty out today! As of now, I'm going to say I will not be biking tonight (Jen will also be out of town).
If things change dramatically, I will repost. Otherwise, we'll be back next week! (and probably very sore!)

I agree with Sam. It is just too rainy and cold for even me. Of course, I'll be flying to sunny Dallas tonight, but still. Sam's and my marathon is this weekend, so wish us luck and go easy on us next Tuesday! : )
Janet, Sam and I are planning to do SIJ - probably the 62 mile distance.

Just a reminder about tonight's ride. The plan is to meet around 6:15 PM and get on the road by 6:30 PM. Sam won't be joining me, so hopefully at least one of you will be keeping me company. I warn that I'm still sore from the marathon, so it will be an easy 1 hour ride. You, of course, can ride faster if you'd like. Hope to see you soon!
