Besides Lake Erie, where do people practice swimming in lakes? Any on the west or south side of Cleveland, or in the West Akron area?
Are any newbies considering the Silver Springs Triathlon Kickoff (500y Swim, 12M Bike, 3.1M Run) in Stow on Sunday June 26? I think I am going to - "they" say it is a good, small, inexpensive one to start at. And I have a friend who promised to cheer me on even if it takes me until Tuesday or Wednesday to finish.
I did my very first ever 5K on Friday evening - 44.02. I know it isn't fast but I felt great about it. Overall #405 out of 515 and amazed at how many younger, fitter-looking people were behind me.
Hope you all had a great time at the picnic. I just had a minute to drop off desserts before attending a memorial service for a friend's mother. Sorry I missed the transition info and fellowship.

Susan and Brent Sounds like you have a good plan for your first tri. I have not done this one... another you may consider if you are 'hooked' is the Huntington Sprint by NCN. It is a fun race with alot of newbies and experienced people alike. snow.he.net/~ncnrace/registration/race11/race11.shtmlCongrats on your first 5K. Keep it up. The club has a swim session at monroe falls on mondays starting on June 6th. Check it out. Hope to see you at some races and training sessions... ANGIE

I just signed up for the Stow Sprint Tri. I also spoke with a runner last week who is going. Her first as well.
As far as swimming, I tried to go by myself this weekend (with hubby on jet ski near me) and totally freaked out--I hate not seeing what's below me.
But tomorrow I'll be swimming at Columbia with CTC--hopefully it'll be easier with more people around.

I will be at Stow. Yes, I hate swimming when I can't see and with my schedule the next 2 weeks I doubt I will get practice before the event. I went to the Hinckley spill way a few weeks ago and felt very disoriented in the pond scum. See you there Suzi

I'll be there... 3rd race ever (2nd this year)... Looking to improve upon the hilariously stupid things I did at Deer Creek a few weeks back (story to follow).
I swam Silver Springs today and the water is just fine...

Hey! Good luck guys! I did the Stow tri last year and had a great time. Good course for your first one, and the best part about the race is they made PANCAKES for you at the end....what a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed the race and hope you will too--I'd do it myself but will be out of town.
