I just a marathon build up 6 weeks ago. I am up to a 15 mile run for the Long run. Question
After I finished I stopped to talk to a neighbor. It was at the very end of the run. While I was talking to him I felt a wave of dizziness hit me. I had to sit down ( I felt pretty stupid). It felt like I might black out. I have never had this happen before. I did a 13 mile run the week before and felt great.
What's up with this? any thoughts?
Question # 2
In the back of my leg . directly behind my knee below where the hamstring connects and above the calf. It swelled up. Puffy, the size of a golf ball and was painful. The pain started at about mile 10 and got worse. It has been two days . It seems better.
What is this? any thoughts?
I drank 16 ounces of water during the run and two gel packs.

First is probably food related. I get dizzy when I'm not eating enough.
Second. I don't know man. I'd see a doctor on that one.

Agree on seeing the doc. It sounds like you have done a pretty fast ramp up, hopefully you havent given yourself an injury.

occasionally that happens to me but usually it's an hour or 2 after the run. after some fluids and sitting for a minute I'm ok.

Saw doctor about back of leg . He said just pulled muscle.
Dizziness I think was lack of food. I intended to run in the morning early so I did not eat but was distracted by numerous things so did not run until 1pm.
I ran 10 miles today and had no problem with either.

I have a " Long Run Recovery Question"
I just ran 16 miles. No dizziness like 2 weeks ago. No leg pain either.
What is the strategy for a quick recovery from a long run?
Eating? right away? wait? what to eat?
Liquids? How much ? how soon?
Biggest question ; Should I ice my legs or soak in hot water? I saw a video on youtube with Ryan Hall and he soaked in ice water after a 13 mile run. I want to soak in hot water. Which is the best?
I want to eliminate any soreness and stiffness as soon as possible.
Any other things to do after? let me know

I'm not putting in those kind of run miles...still dealing with hip issues, but am able to run for 90 minutes without pain now. As for recovery ice baths helped a lot for both recovery and injury prevention while building up to the 90 minute mark.
for post workout fuel...hammer recoverite with hammer whey has worked great for me over the last year..love their products and support. Also good to eat as soon as you are comfortable with chowing down.
good luck...SP

1% chocolate milk, and a nice hot shower. If you have someone that will do it, a rub down is great too.
You impress me with your resilience. Im not sure i could bounce back like you do. Nice one!
