I love the internet and my cell phone - still looking for a Suggar Mamma to help me with all my expenses - but got down here to KY and had a great time talking/texting with a LOT of people - keep the calls and text coming i love it.
I know there is a lot of interest in the club in terms of the quality of the KY race and related to making some decisions baout weather to enter this race or Moo/Fl next year. I'm going to do my best to provide some timely insight into KY and also compare it to Moo (have not done Fl) or really any of the other 5 IMs I've done.
Few quick impressions - up to this point all the administrative things for lou have gone well. Entry last year worked, there were updates provided all summer, web site was adequate. This event administratively up to this weekend has been run as well or better than any other IM i've done
Just yesterday some major changes have had to be made to the swim course - this in NO way is WTCs problem - they can't control the weather - what i can say is I am VERY impressed with how they have handled this set back.
I'm lucky to be getting some behind the scenes info - not secrets just info - WTC has always had a back up plan for the swim (i'd guess all other issues also) - the plan is a good one. The swim will be fair to everyone and more so SAFE. Is it a perfect swim - no probably not but this is IM and you roll with the punches.
What I am even more impressed with is that WTC has been pushing info on this change out VERY timely and with good intent. At registration you were personally walked through the swim changes. I have gotten a few emails on this topic also - so no one should be bitching bout this part of the race
Registration - well run - effectient and effective - as good as any IM i have done - these folks know their sh it
Goodie bag - ok this is trivial but you got some stuff in it - better than any IM i have done
expo - not so great - smallest one i have been to - but still you can buy ALL the IM logoed sh it you want -
Main transition ares - only looked at this real quick - looks V nice. the start ares is a great location - finish area looks to be FANTASTIC - this is as good as any IM i have done - tops of the list
Lou - seems like a good city for the race - at the expo it is apparent that the city is behind this event - will have more to report on this topic
Cost - host hotel is CHEEP - other costs seem equal to other races
It is F-in hot - WTC can't control this - but ya maybe they could look at the date of the race - it is always going to be hot in lou in Aug. But we have seen killer conditions at Moo 05 and CdA 06 - thuis is what IM is all about concoring adversity weather being one of the biggest - I've sid it before - racing IM is not predominatly about time - it just can't be for the 98% of mortals that try to concor this gorilla.
mickey R is here - always a HUGE plus - he usually is at moo also - it is a draw between the two. and ya mickey took me around today and introduced me to a ton of folks - he da man!!!
and pleae remember this is a first year event - there are ALWAYS issues at a first year race - i did IMAZ the first year and many things needed improved - at this point i would say Lou has been handled better than AZ was pre-race. Can't comment on how improvements will be made to next years race but my guess meeting some WTC people today is that they are committed professionals and any bugs will get worked out.
much more to come - but at this point i'm v happy
