alright, i know I'm not doing it... but it's only a month away.
Just wondering who is going... and important to me, who is willing to sign me up for next year. I would love to go, watch the race, and sign up afterwards, but I have to be in Connecticut to race for Syracuse University on that weekend.

FYI,
If I heard correctly from Lake Placid this year, you will have to stand in line to sign up yourself, then go to the end of the line and wait again to sign up someone else.

yes, that is what happened at lake placid this year. Hopefully Rob decides to go (no pressure or anything) and decides that he doesn't mind standing in line a couple times...
I'm really hoping to beat 16:01:27 for Wisconsin. I'm going to train for a 1:05 swim, 6:00 bike, and a 4:00 marathon.

Dude, you seem to talk like you're almost ashamed of your time. Screw that. You're in the <1% of people that even consider doing something like an ironman, let alone finishing one.
You're living your life, and that's awesome.

I am going to be doing IM MOO this year and haven't decided if I am doing it again next year but if there is a lot of CTC interest or if I don't finish for any reason I probably will. I was third in line last year and got signed up but don't know how long I am willing to stand in line again the day after my first IM.
I agree with Rob. You are not only focusing on your disappointment but you are minimizing the efforts of others who are rightfully proud of finishing an IM. You are an Ironman whether your time is 10 hours or 16:59:59 and if I was one of the others who did a similar time (and I may be) I would be getting tired of hearing you complain about it. I know this is not your intent and you are only talking about yourself but I think your initial goal was unrealistic and you are going to add a lot of unneeded pressure on yourself for next year by trying to predict your time and shave four hours. Just train hard and do your best.

The last I heard, the IM cut off was 17hours...
Thanks Jack.

Oh i am super happy that I finished the race and I am very proud of it. Ask my friends and family, they would tell you. I only said I want to beat the time... not that I am ashamed of it. I walked on the run, which I think is due to not properly training with enough bricks. I just hope that i can go out and beat my time. Pressure on myself? well... YEAH! If I didn't put pressure on myself to go out and race faster, what do I do all this for? I enjoy racing very much, and I would rather go out to put pressure on myself to do a faster Ironman, than to go out and just try to finish again. I have already finished, and able to say I have gone 170.3, but next time around, I want to try and go 16:00:00 or better.
I am not taking anything away from the people who do this in 16:59:59. Hell, they deserve more credit than I do (they were out racing an hour more than me). All that I am trying to say is that I feel that in my second Ironman, I want to improve. Is 11 hours possible, OF COURSE it is, but I should train the right way. I was on pace to do 11 hours after the swim and half the bike. I just need to train for the second half of the race so that I can finish in the time that I would like to get. Am I going to be dissappointed if I get more than 11 hours, no, but I will if I get more than 16. thats all.

I told my family that I would likely finish between 12 and 15 hours and I came in under 15 hours. But to be honest, I could care less what my time was.
I had 17 hours to finish and that is exactly what I did. Focus less on your watch and more on the experience.

I think everyone here has valid points -
Jack - you will do very well at Wisconsin - we have talked many times and you have had such organization and focus with your training....now, only you can get in your way - go get em' and we have to talk before Wisconsin. Like Rob Reddy said in a previous post - your effort up to Wisconsin has made you an Ironman.....now you just have one fun day to "officially" get the title that is already rightfully yours.
Michael - Very cool that you have put into writing on a public forum your new goal - that is very admirable but now you have to defend that time and I wish you the best of luck and I'm sure with very hard work and determination that you will succeed. Just remember, the IM starts at mile 80 (or about) on the bike - to get your 11 hours focus on the whole distances - to look at your pace for half a race doesn't normally work out perfectly. In fact, I've heard that to get an idea of an IM time you should take your half IM time and ADD one hour....this is assuming like courses (of course). Really though, go get em' and only focus/determination will get you to that finish-line with 11hrs on the ticker!!

thanks for the words of encouragement Dave. I am excited to go and try an ironman again. I think i am really fixed on the long course now. At first it was tough getting used to the long workouts, but now that I've been doing it for a little while, I don't have near as much fun doing short workouts. I can't wait till I start training for Wisconsin '08 which should start somewhere in January.

Who's going and is willing to sign me up for 2008? Does anyone know the procedure? Do I give my signer-upper a check to NA sports, cash, credit card... first born? Anyone done the "had someone else sign them up" before? I'm going to be ready on Monday but you never know what could happen.

FYI: After seeing the line at Lake Placid this year, you are asking for a HUGE favor.
Credit Card is probably the easiest way to have someone sign you up along with USAT number and all you're other info.
Or sit online Monday AM and be prepared.
IMLOU is still open, but for how long? Will proabaly close shortly after MOO closes.

Thinks the way they've modified the entry procedure is great. Athlete's participating this year can actually sign up on Satruday AM, a day before the race occurs. I'm sure the volume of people in line at IMLP caused this. Should leave a few more online spots open.

We're going up, but as me and Dave discovered last week; you can only sign yourself up these days. Sorry Mike

per IM Moo website:
Entry Procedure for 2008:
Athletes registered for the current year’s event can register for the following year’s event on the Saturday before the race.
Athletes can only register themselves.
Registration will be from 9-11 AM. This timeframe will be for athletes only, so they don’t have to worry about the next year’s registration or stand in line after having raced.
Day after registration will be only for people to register themselves, they will not be allowed to register a friend at all at any of our events in the future. Anyone can register themselves at this time.
Whatever is left for general entry will be done via Active.com usually opening at 11 AM local race site time.

I like the miceli math... 1/2 IM + and hour - need another season for me before i will even think full IM. You guys are GREAT!! Respect the distance and time and effort for training - recovery longer then expected from the 1/2.
