Hey,
I'm going to be training for my first ironman (Lake Placid) next summer and was trying to figure out where to train during the summer. I live in South Jersey, but there are NO hills. I go to Case Western, so it would be easy to just live in cleveland.
I have a few questions: *Where do you guys bike/run usually? Where around Cleveland would be most ideal for me to live? *How many different levels of competitors do we have? Will I be able to find someone to train with?
Thanks, Todd

Please be reminded that we have our final training session this coming Saturday at 9:15 AM at Mentor Headlands for the Greater CLeveland Triathlon on August 14.
The bike course has hills very similar to the Lake Placid region. I am sure that we will have a group do at least 35 - 40 miles on the bike course.
This is also a Ironman Qualifier for 2006.
We will meet in Lot #17

? Could you go more into detail about IM training with the CTC. I am interested for NEXT summer. Do you guys have IM-specific training or do you just train by yourselves? What sorts of paces/distances do you do for the group IM training?
Basically I'm looking for people to train with hours a week for IMUSA.

Todd- We do have a group that does ironman distance workouts.. however, I cannot tell you now what the workouts will be next summer. I expect that we will once again hold long open water swims (on the west-side of cleveland usually) and many people training for ironman do some of the century and half century bike tours in the area to train on the bike. We have all types of levels on these rides from beginners to experienced ironman competitors. Workouts are usually scheduled on both the east and west sides... depending on who is sponsoring it. I suggest that you live close to Case but be prepared to drive to the workout. Our group is very diverse... I am sure you can find plenty of people at your level to train with. Our workouts usually start in the spring.... april and may. Until then... best of luck. ANGIE

Depending on the time of the year - training for IM distances varies
There are a bunch of us racing IM distance next year - at least three of us are doing IM CdA in June - I know that Matt will be doing LP again (assumption but a pretty good one) - we have a few people that will be doing IMWisc and IMFL
After Rob and I ventured down to IMAZ this April - we proved to ourselves and everyone else that training in NE Ohio for a race THAT early is difficult.
The bottom line is - there will be atleast 10 people - maybe more - that will be going long in 2006 - don;t forget that we have a huge number of members doing 1/2 IM distance races also - and training here is good for some speed work too.
Depending on the time of year - there are a wide variety of locations - be prepared to do a lot of time on the trainer during the winter - except for those days when the temp stays around 35 degrees and the roads are clear - then a few of us venture out - and to think - how pleasant that felt a few times this past winter - only because it was time outdoors!!!
Fire me off an email if you are looking for more specifics - ajoyce@saeco-usa.com

As soon as registration opens I will be signing up for Lake Placid. Via the message board you will be able to find plenty of people to train with. The hills in Mentor that Mickey mentioned are great and there are plenty of hills in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Can't make recommendations about where to live but being near campus will put you central to all of the main training areas. You will find the tri community in Cleveland friendly, supportive and helpful. Eric Gibb VP SnakeBite Racing www.snakebiteracing.com

Andrew, I am actually passing on IMUSA for '06. But I am thinking of doing one of the non M-dots (maybe GFT or Vineman). Just looking for a change of pace, and something where I can do 140 and Jen can race 70.
best of lock to all those who hit the "Register" button today for IMUSA. I can tell you that during the Awards banquet today, Mike Reilley announced they already had 2000 entrants for 2006 - that was around noon, so I assume its sold out by now.
