Sam B. just talked me into running the half-marathon with her. It will be her first and also the first milestone for us as we build to the marathon in May 2006, half-IM in August 2006 and IM in 2007. I think I have officially lost my mind! I'll let her speak for herself. ;D

She's gone public about loosing her mind or about her season? Jen...I have a similar target: Cleveland marathon in May 2006 (with hopefully a Boston Qualification) and half IM in August 2006 (GCT) but I don't know about the IM...I am not sure I lost that much of my mind yet.

She's gone public about loosing her mind or about her season? Now, that is a good question! ;D I think he meant about doing IM in 2007. I guess I feel that if I tell enough people, then I can't chicken out. I did GCT in 2005 as my first half-IM. It is a great race! At the time, I didn't think I'd ever consider an IM, but obviously that's changed. Never say never Fred.

2005 being my first tri season, I do not see myself running a full IM. As far as never...I never say never (did I just say never?). I know it will happen...I just do see it right now. I take one season at a time (same with my marathon season) and build a little at a time, increasing my goals. Let's talk about this in October 2006...I might be up for an IM. Which one are you going for?

We are leaning towards IM Wisconsin in September 2007.

Let's talk about this in October 2006...I might be up for an IM. If you're thinking of doing one in 2007, October 2006 is going to be too late to talk about it. And I was referring to Jen going public about doing an Ironman. It goes without saying that anyone who does this is out of their mind. That's why I love her!

Charlie
You may wish to consider participating in the Long Course Group this year - as I am sure there will be a lot on offer that will assist you in your training!!!

Andrew, I do wish to. I am planning two halfs next summer, so I plan to participate when possible. I am living car free right now and I hope to remain that way, my ability to train with the group will be dependant on location or rides from other members.

I'm doing the 1/2. I need to prove to myself that I can run/plod if I can see the road. (reference to Great Floridian). Pam the porcelain goddess (another Great Floridian reference) is going to do the 5k and I convinced my husband to do the 5k also.

It was fun to see everyone at the Fall Classic. This was my first half and although I was pretty happy with my time.... I am really feeling the effects today. The first 10 miles I felt great...after that my legs were screaming for me to stop.... I continued on and finished in 1:53. Not too bad. I am having trouble walking. With the added upper body effects from rock climbing, I am feeling old. Needless to say, I turn 35 next week.... ohhhh. Congrats to all that participated in the half and the 5 K. It was great to have all that encouragement on the course. What a great bunch of people. ;D ANGIE

There certainly were a lot of CTC members there, racing, volunteering and supporting.
Before the race, many of us found each other and got to hang out for a few minutes. Amy T., Cat, Pam and Roger did the 5k. I saw Paula, Angie, Charlie, Fred, Dave M., Marie and Kurt out on the half-marathon course. Jeff G. volunteered at a water stop and I saw Debbie S. and Martha out there cheering for the racers. Mickey was a cool emcee who announced at the half-way point and the finish. It was so nice to know so many people there. Did I miss anyone?
Suzi, Sam B. and I ran together almost the whole way. The goal was to pace Sam for her first half-marathon. I was expecting an easy paced run, but of course, my gal had to push it. By mile 11, I wasn't feeling so hot (stomach issues, blisters and a bad sport bra chafe), so Sam took off to a glorious first-time finish of 2:06 (our original goal time was 2:15). Suzi stayed with me and we finished a few minutes later (the comment was made more than once that we looked like the Doublemint twins with our purple tops - not planned). The reward was a big Bob Evans breakfast with the girls and Suzi's parents (they cheered for us during the race also). Yum!
