For those that are interested, I will be hosting a newbie run on January 7th, 2006 starting at the Canal Visitor Center on the Towpath.....this is located very close to the Bedford reserve. Here is the link. home.neo.rr.com/towpath1/CanalVisitorsCenterTrailhead.htmUnless others have different ideas/needs, we will start at 10:00am and do one 6 mile loop (can increase to 10) and the run will feature one rather large hill climb. Most of the run will be on streets but if you have some traction system for the shoes, it may be a good idea.

uhh...I wish I could...I have not run more than 2 miles recently. I guess I need to get better before I can be a part of the group.

Jitendra,
Not true at all. We will have sessions for all kinds of levels. Dave's session is more suited for the new triathlete who was already a runner, but Samantha will be hosting a 3-mile run soon that is more suited to the new runner. Keep your eye on the forum and the newbies page. We have 10 people on the Newbies Committee, so many varied sessions will be coming your way soon.

Jen, I am willing to host a group for a shorter distance if there is a need for it. If there's enough people interested in a 3 or 4 miler I'll volunteer. Jitendra, it is all about pace....we can shoot for a 3 or 4 miler (if that is ok) at an easy pace to make sure you complete the run. If you feel like trying the 6 miler, put a couple of runs in before the 7th and I will run the 6 miles with you, at your pace (whatever you are comfortable with). Let me know, Fred

I'm leaving for Arizona the next day (Sunday the 8th) to race the PF Chang Half on the 15th. I definately won't be pushing myself hard at all on this run.

Dale - Great to see that you'll be making it.
Jitendra - It is possible that you could make this into a tough 2 miler if you like. The run is basically flat for 2 miles and then the hills start for 2 miles and then we go back on the same stretch as the first 2 miles. So, you can and there is parking at the start of the hill area.....If you want to come, I can give you directions from the start on where to drive/park to meet us. Then you can run the 2 mile hill part which will end right back where you parked.........if that makes any sense.
Also, this is going to be a great way to start the new year off........Personally, I will be in base building mode so I will be running this nice and comfortably w/ emphasis on form. So, this should be around a 9-10 minute pace for me.
I hope to see many new faces out on this run.......I remember my first time coming out for this CTC club thing and I was a bit nervous/intimidated. Please don't be this way....the only one that bites here is Fred and I will put a muzzle on him...So, can't wait to see all the new faces..come on out for a nice run on the Towpath and through the Metroparks.....it'll be a blast!!

Or, if you like......we can drive two cars to the start of the hill....then you can drive back w/me and run the first two flat miles/rest/and then possibly run 2 back as the group comes around....or drive back to the start...whatever you like.
This also goes for anyone else who might want to join but not do the full 6 miles. I will arrive at the meeting spot/parking lot at the Canal Visitor center a bit early for those who want to place their vehicles on the course....ie-shorter distances. I will be driving in a green gas hog...I mean Ford Explorer!!

Guys!
Thanks for the words of encouragement and willingness to help.... This club forum sure is active! That's great!!
I will try to make it but normally Saturday morning is my tennis and kickboxing day. There is a slight chance that it will be cancelled and if so I will be there for sure...othewise Saturdays are going to be tough for me. But I am keeping my eyes on the forum to figure out when I can attend a club event and get to know the gang.

Very good turnout today for the Newbie run. I think we had around 9 people showup to challange the hill. I apoligize to everyone for messing up the distance as we actually ran 7.80 miles on the loop but I think everyone had a good time.
Well, thanks again to everyone for showing up and joining in the run. It was also really nice to meet some new faces. Have a great weekend and good luck to those of you competing in the indoor tri tommorrow.

Sorry to everyone who showed up on time. I got lost... even downloaded a map from the NPS web site. Maybe I should cross "adventure racing" off my todo list! Anyway, I ran 6 0n the towpath anyway and may have seen a few of you out there. I was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and neon yellow gloves. You may also have seen me go "ass over teakettle" on the icy patch at the detour near mile marker 13. In spite of the mishaps it was a great day for the run and since I work in Beachwood I think I've found yet another wonderful place to train. Hope to actually meet you some day and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Dale,
Sorry to hear about you getting lost.....I wish I would of known, this way we could have waited. Next time I'll make sure to post my phone number so others with similiar situations could call. Anyhow, glad to hear you got in your 6 miles - By the way, I wore these spike-like galosh's that fit over my shoes and they worked terrific for traction today. I purchased mine at Fleet Feet in Northfield and they provide club members with a nice discount. Enjoy your weekend aswell Dale, we'll see ya in the future.
