A couple of logistics for IM Loo / 2014 for those interested AND some info for fans and families.
Friday: A few of us are planning to do the athlete dinner - its basic food (usually pasta, meat, potato, salad, veggies, bread). If you've never done an IM event, its worth it. The talks and videos will get you fired up.
Saturday: The ramp from transition will be open from 8-10 am Saturday morning to get into the river for some swimming. Let's try to get the Clevelanders there at 9 am for a group photo and swim. I'll have a black CTC shirt on for those who don't know me - hope to see you all there!! If anyone is interested, we can go grab brunch afterwards. Also - if anyone is interested in driving the bike course, we may get a caravan going later on.
SOME IDEAS FOR FANNING ON SUNDAY:
The swim start is nothing exciting at this race, but it is really cool watching them finish the swim.
A really fun way to watch the bike is from the loop out past LaGrange. To get there, take I-71 north to the LaGrange exit (53). Once in town jump on the bike course going the opposite way that the bikers are riding (if you try to go the direction of the bikes you will be in traffic hell). Drive backwards out of LaGrange and find a good place to park, then walk across the street and catch folks on their first leg of the loop. After seeing folks, drive back further until you are past the part of the course where the loop starts (where the 'stick' meets the 'lollipop'). Drive about a mile up the road and find a spot where a mild uphill ends for the bikers. Set up there and watch 'em come by mile 60-ish and 95-ish. They'll appreciate as this is the most boring part of the bike course. Whatever they/you do, don't try to drive on the "stick" of the bike course - the traffic will be horrendus.
For fanning the run. Jump on a bike and take the sidewalks out on the course (you won't be allowed to bike on the roads, sidewalks only). Same thing - the run can be boring out at the 6-ish and 18-ish mile areas - fans out there would help (especially for those on the course after dark).
Whatever they/you do, be sure to catch the finish line area on 4th Street Live. It's fantastic - especially from 10 pm to midnight!
Finally, I hope to be done around 11 hours, barring any physical issues - so - let me know where to find you crazy fans so I can start hydrating with you all (with hops and barley, of course).
