Success in triathlon, particularly long course, is at the bottom line pretty simple - 1. Don't be stupid 2. Avoid injury (all part of #1) 3. Gradually increase volume over YEARS 4. Have a plan and lots of structure to your training AND........... 5. Consistency!!!!!!! Let talk #5 - Consistency......... By that I mean training on a regular basis, without binges and purges - by that I mean not missing a couple days and then trying to make up all the lost training time/miles on the weekend. Why do I bring this up - well I was looking at my training and noticed I've gone 100 days in a row without missing one day of training - 100 days straight where there was at least 40 minutes of swim, bike or run every day - no rest days. Now some of those days were far larger volume than 40 minutes - some of those days were higher intensity, some were 40 min recovery swims or rides. But still it was 100 days of training without a rest day. That's my IM consistency - What's the longest you have held your training consistency? r

If I recall correctly my longest streak is about 10 days. And that was already exceptional. I absolutely need recovery days. If it's not the muscles that need it then it sure will be the head. ;-)
I have not missed many days due to injury - I've pulled a hamstring and calf muscle last two winters but those never impacted my ability to ride the bike.
