Jen thanks for posting this I would hate to see them get rid of the mass start - It would take away 2 of the unique and special things about IM - the start itself is something to experience as an athlete and to see as a spectator - It also takes away from the mid-night finish (having been close enough myself) the common goal of the pack at that hour is one of the things that keeps you going - Also - you don't have to be in the combat zone at the start - there is plenty of room at the side and the back (even in a small lake like LP) that you swim without much contact

Good article. I was a little surprised that 20% no show on race day.
With so many of us heading to IM Moo I don't like the idea of a wave starts. Some of us will race at the same pace and we can pull each other along, especially during the run. If we are separated by age, or male/ female it changes the dynamic of the whole race.
