Yep you heard it right, CTC is starting its 10th year of existence as a formal incorporated sports club. We on the board are quite proud of this accomplishment, and to celebrate this achievement we are planning a host of “10 Year Annaversary Birthday Celebrations” to commemorate the big event of turning to a double-digit age.
So your first question probably is, ‘how can I participate in this gigantic event?’ It’s simple, PAY YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES!! One hundred and thirteen brave solve ponyed up $20 to support CTC in its inaugural year (yes $20 the same amount we are charging for early bird memberships today, 10 years later – what can you buy today that cost the same over a decade ago?). Sooooo, either renew or become a new member today, as we know a WHOLE lot of folks have benefited from the offerings of CTC over the years but may not have paid membership dues (guilt trip here!!). Finally, you might like to know of the original 113 members about 30 are still highly active multi-sporters today!
Now that you have decided to get your membership house in order, what other birthday events do we have planned? Well, here is a sampling of things you should be on the look out for……
Original Member Profiles – Ya we are going to go back in time and ask those “originals” why they joined CTC and what were some of their fondest memories of the past decade. Look for these “Profiles in CTC Courage” periodically in the Tri Bug, Tri Blast, on Facebook, and on the CTC web site.
Trivia Tuesday – Think you know everything about CTC? Where we came from and all the fun, exciting things we have done. We are going to test your club knowledge on Tuesdays starting soon. See if you really do know your club, and more than likely learn a bit of CTC history along the way.
Ten Year Commemorative Logo – Be on the look out for the very special 10-year anniversary logo. We plan to get this onto club gear this year; creating a keepsake that EVERYONE will want to purchase regardless of what other teams you are associated with. We will also be offering the chance to buy other logoed items (shirts, sweatshirts, ect) over the course of the year so that you can show your CTC pride. The 10 Year Anniversary Logo will be incorporated into the club give-a-way to paid members – so yet ANOTHER reason to renew your membership dues. These will be a keepsake for sure!
“From the Vault” – As many may know, but others may not, the CTC Forum was at one time a VERY active place where folks shared a wealth of knowledge, some heated debates, and a few other non-tri related tidbits of knowledge/opinion. Well not only are we working to re-invigorate the Forum currently, but starting in February we will highlight some of the best threads of the past 10 years. I highly encourage people too dig into these posting as there is information and knowledge that has been shared between club members over the years that is beyond monetary value.
“The Photo Album” – We have had a lot of photo bugs within the club over the years, and we plan to share many of these memories with everyone. This will be a great retrospective on the club and how triathlon has changed over the past decade. Look for postings throughout club newsletters and the web. And if you happen to have photos (either hard copy or electronic) that you would like to share, please contact me at rob.reddy@oberlin.edu. We REALLY want to find as many old club photos as possible!
CTC Club Race – Over the years we have been asked if the club would consider going to a local race as one big unit. Well we are going to start a new tradition this year and do just that. The board has selected HFP’s Maumee Bay race as the official “CTC Club Race” for this year. Plans are still in the works, but the general idea is that we will do a caravan up to Maumee early day Sat, hold a club swim/run and then host a ‘Birthday Party Picnic’ for club members Saturday night at the Maumee Bay Camp grounds. Folks are encouraged to either camp out or get a hotel room for Saturday night so that we can all party long and race hard that weekend. Might even be some special awards for those that do the best job combining the two!
“Long Course Group” – Is being revived this year. The LCG was a very active group in years gone by, and with the very large number of club members racing 70.3s or IMs this year we thought we would get the LCG kicking again. A number of special training opportunities are being planned as we speak.
The BIG SWIM and after Party – The Big Swim has been a staple event for the club for many, many years. We are looking towards the 4th of July weekend to put together a nice swim training workout and then a little after lake social activity. For the very brave we might even re-introduce the VERY BIG SWIM!
CTC Birthday Gala – Mark your calendar NOW for the night of November 9th, as this will be the official ‘classy’ CTC celebration of our 10th anniversary. We are only now beginning to plan the details, but I can assure you that this ‘Gala’ will be the biggest and best social event CTC has ever put on in, yep you know it, 10 years.
So that’s the skinny on the 10 year CTC celebration. We look forward to partying throughout 2013 with old and new CTC members!!!
