It's THAT time of the year again - Tri Swimming is coming BACK!!
I wanted to get this out to everyone who participated in Tri Swim/Tri Trainer in the past two years as I need to start the registration process!!!
As in the past, Tri Swimming it is a highly structured swim training program. It covers about 7 months and trains triathletes in a manor simular to competitive swimmers - however unlike traditional masters swim programs there are special considerations for the needs and abilities of triathlete swimmers incorporated into the program.
SPECIAL NOTE - After some though about the tragic deaths this summer at a number of tri events (not just GCT) I want to devote ONE FULL SESSION of Tri-Swimming to working on open water skills, pack swimming, deep water starts and siteing. ADDITIONALLY - One of the biggest issues that people encounter is panic in the water and an inability to swim with others in close proximity. During the course of the program I want to incorporate a few new drills and situations into practice that will (somewhat) simulate these conditions. More info during the first session.
SPECIAL NOTE #2 - I am also working with Team In Training this year to provide the Tri Swimming program to anyone who will be participating in the 2013 TNT St. Anthony's Team. The short of it is THIS - if you join the TNT St Anthony's Team, TNT will reimburse you for the Tri Swimming program cost of $185. The reimbursement process will need to be coordinated through Holly Coughlin of TNT - and Holly has final word on requirements to qualify for reimbursement payment. You can contact Holly directly at Holly.Coughlin@lls.org for program detail and reimbursement processes. As I'm sure you all know, TNT does fantastic work and can be a very rewarding experience - and now its a way to get your Tri Swimming fees returned to you!!!!!! For more information on the St Anthony Tri - please see the bottom of this email.
The program will again be 16 dates solid. We will start on Oct. 21 through the end of April. I want to hit the first 4 sessions with a TOTAL focus on stroke mechanics and drills. Nothing else - all workouts for the first month will be relatively short and 90% drill focused. We will then do a T test on 12/16 going into three months of distance focused training. I want to work on low HR, sustained effort swimming - but there will also be an emphasis placed on holding form - lot more info on how this will work once we get started. My general thought is that for all I want to work to build a HUGE aerobic base during the winter. I think because we start the program soooo early in the season, this pproach should be beneficial to everyone in the long run, particularly folks considering doing a HIM/IM next year!!! .
We will again be using the Oberlin pool and will have a start time of 8 a.m. For those not familure with Oberlin - it is about 35 min from Bay Village and about 30 min from the airport.
Cost for the "Tri Swimming"program will be $185.
If you are interested in Tri Swimming - please let me know ASAP - I will get you some paperwork (I'm being pushed to have releases completed BEFORE we begin practice). Feel free to share this message/registration with anyone you think might be interested.
As always - space will be limited and (hopefully) filled.
Questions please let me know.
Tentative dates
10/21 - swimming - stroke mechanics
11/4 - swimming - stroke mechanics
11/11 - swimming - stroke mechanics
11/18 - swimming - stroke mechanics
12/2 - swimming - stroke work AND swim practice

12/16 - swimming
** 1st T-test
1/13 - swimming
1/20 - swimming
2/3 - swimming
2/24 - swimming
3/10 - swimming - Open Water skills clinic
3/24 - swimming
** this is our 'over distance' phase
3/31 - swimming
4/7 - swimming
4/21 - swimming
4/29 - swimming
TRI TRAINER - as many recall we also did a trainer class last winter. We will again run this as a 2 hour class starting right after swimming. We would start on 1/20 for 6 sessions through to 3/31. It seemed after April 1 people wanted to start ridding out side and even more so people were basically tired of indoor ridding. I would also like to make this a BRICK trainer ride - we did a number of classes in this format last spring and it seemed to go very well (using the indoor 200 meter track at the college). And no other trainer ride (to my knowledge) can give you a real BRICK experience.
At this point I would simply like to know if you are interested in the Tri Trainer program - no hard committment needed.
If you are interested in registering for TRI SWIMMING please email me at rob.reddy@oberlin.edu ASAP and I will get you the required paperwork.
thanks
