OMG! I've seen this, many times, before. And STILL I cry! Those ladies just couldn't get their bodies to do any more!!! You won't experience this ... but if you do, you will have known you pushed through the mental and physical pain to cross the line. This is catastrophic metabolic event, and usually doesn't happen with proper training, hydration and nutrition.

Google Julie Moss' 1982 finish. Her finish, and the coverage of it on Wide World of Sports (the video's on You Tube), is usually considered one of the Ironman's defining moments. This was just the fourth (maybe fifth, because I think they did two in one of the early years) Ironman.

Anyone else notice the title on this? The first few years the race was held early in the year, like February, in 1982 they had races in Feb. and Oct.
