This is a good time for one of those IM videos where the cartoon characters from the "Money for Nothin' " video talk like robots and make fun of WTC.

Just saw it posted at $895 not inluding processing fees. wow $895 - that's cheap! Considering we all make the IM triathlete's mean income of 161k/year, right? ;D In all seriousness, you know they rumored $1000+ so that they could announce it at $895 and make it look like a bargain. Marketing geniuses.

Ironman Wall Street
What's the true cost of an Ironman over the year between registration and race day? Higher grocery bills (eating more to maintain weight), more trips to the pump (driving more to go to training locations), more for bike maintenance (string a bunch of hundred mile training rides together and things are bound to break and wear out). Not to mention accomodations and other expenses for the Ironman trip itself.
Just wondering.

True cost? A lot of money. I don't even want to add up my expenditures for Lake Placid this year - I'd probably make myself sick - although I think Danielle has a pretty good idea : )
Registration, hotels/accomodations, food, airfare (sometimes), gas, new gear, hydration systems, tires, tubes, trying out different nutrition, the list goes pretty long, pretty sure I could lump my new bike in as an IMLP expense as well this year!
I guess the takeaway from this is that the Registration cost is a TINY percentage of what you are actually spending to do a race, so the fact it is $300 more really is a drop in the bucket.

i just pulled the trigger. $939.75 total w active fee. probably the only year it will be under a thousand with the normal yearly bump in price. This may be my last one. too much cash. George vale and I had an idea to last year to do what durno is proposing for a local im. Had a name and sponsor :
Rebelman full distance only requirement was if you did not finish you had to contribute $100 to end of nite barbill. We were gonna finish at w. 9th. Maybe this idea needs to be resurrected.
Anybody else in for NYC?
