I have had 1 major limitation. After 10 miles the front of of feet are in great pain in the forefoot area.. Last week at mile 18 of a 20 mile run I felt great in legs, cardio and overall energy but I could barely force myself to put my feet on the ground because of the pain. I could have run miles 19 and 20 at 7:30 pace but could only stay at 9 minute pace because of this.
I need more cushion in the forefoot since I am running 100% forefoot strike.
I have read about these Newton running shoes
I tried on a pair today. I did not buy them yet.
They felt great and had a huge amount of cushion.
They are expensive. That is why I want to be sure
anyone ever use them?
good? bad? if problems what are they?

Mike - I have a pair of Newtons that I use as a training shoe to retain myself to land on my forefoot v heel striking I only use them on a recovery run- The shoe is designed with only 3 mm between the heel and the mid/fore foot lugs - V 12 mm on a conventional shoe - it sounds like you are a fore foot striker already - I don't consider the lugs as a cushioning device - I've read the literature about how they return more energy etc - but, at least for me, there is more impact pressure - I know some other runners who also use the shoe as a training shoe but not for long distance or for racing (particularly at marathon distance) Good luck

I don't know enough about shoes to specifically recommend these for you, but I used Newton's for about 1 year. Loved them. I had LOTS of issues with my shins/calf muscles hurting while running - couldn't even run 2-3 miles without pain. Coming from a sprinting background I really didn't have good long distance running form - used to pretty much jam my heels into the ground and I ran "very loudly." Used these shoes for a year for everything from training to racing - really feel like they trained me to foot-strike more appropriately. Stopped using them because of the cost and switched to Brooks. I can really run in any shoe now and don't have that same pain I used to have.
Wife uses them also. They are her primary shoe; uses them in training and racing.

I used 'em a couple years ago. After 6 months, I developed painful lumps in my forefoot - right where I would "strike" with the Newtons. I quit using them and within a year the pain went away.
It may have been coincidence.

Guys this was amazing. I did the Cleveland 10 miler today. My goal was 7:30 pace I did 7:42 pace but had a horrible head cold and had only 3 hours sleep so I was not too far off. The best part is in my other shoes my mind would totally be on painful feet the last 3 miles. Well I did not even have the slightest pain in my feet. All I had to battle the will to stay on pace. They felt so good that I did not realize until 2 hours after that I remembered no pain. I am sure they are not for everyone but I am 100% front foot striker. These felt great. THanks for input
