In the past I would give blood often.
I have backed of since training for Tri's
For some reason I decided to give bllood Monday
I wish I read more about it.
I tried to do speed intervals on Wednesday and was I surprised.
At halfway into the first run It felt like I was above LT . My guess was 170 heart rate. When I looked at my Garmin it was under 150.
I could not believe how bad I felt.
I went home and read up on it and sure enough it said you will see a 10% drop in max ability and I read where a drop of 20 on heart rate Lactic threshold
The worst part is it said it could take 3-4 weeks to recover.
Bummer. since I am really hitting it hard.
stupid
I did a 5k race Saturday seemed to get a slight cold after
Ran 16 miles hard hills Monday then gave blood at 6pm that day.
Since I always seem to be on the edge of overtraining this was not a good combo
anyone else give blood during training? any thoughts? How did it affect you?
just wondering

I always wait till the off season to donate. Usually able to get in 2 or 3 times over the winter. I'd agree it's a bad idea to donate right in the middle of hard training, especially right after a 16 mile run.

I have not donated blood since high school since I never have a period in my training where I can afford to chill for a month while my body grows back the blood cells.
Definitely do your homework.
I guess this is the opposite of blood doping! Anti-EPO! Maybe the Euro cyclist should do this as a punishment for doping. Every 4 weeks donate blood throughout the season!
