Hi gang! Many of you are aware of this through our Facebook efforts, however, for others that are not on FB, or are uninterested in social media, I wanted to take a moment to ask for you guys to support our all around cool guy, Ed Slovenkay, as he puts on a fundraiser Texas Hold'em Tournament to raise funds for his step-daughter, Rachel, to attend diabetes camp. Rachel is a type-1 diabetic and Ed and his finance, Jodi, have committed to support Rachel in bringing fitness and exercise to her as a tool in controlling her disease.
For me, just meeting Ed and Jodi in September, I am so impressed with their commitment to support Rachel in any way possible. This opportunity arose, and they had little time to consider their decision ... but they knew this would be an amazing experience for Rachel and would give her the tools to manage her disease better. They approached Rachel, with her part being that she would need to tackle a kid's triathlon, and she readily agreed!
Speaking from personal experience, I can say that Ed Slovenkay has helped me, and my fellow Triabetes Captains, with words of advice, motivation, training plan feed back, and so much more. Ed has been an invaluable resource to all of us, and for a man with such a full plate, I - we - are all greatly appreciative of his time, advice and feedback. Simply stated, Ed is an amazing person and so incredibly generous with his time and advice.
Like so many charities, there is a fundraising commitment that we must agree to. So, in an effort to hit our goal, Ed has come up with a great idea of running a Poker Tournament. With help from a professional, Ed has tackled this and made it an event for April 30th. I'm helping out as much as I can, and I wanted to ask you, fellow CTC peeps, to support him too. I just think the world of Ed and Jodi and I want this fundraiser to be successful.
If you play poker, please come! If you do not play poker, still consider coming - my husband is a great player, and he'd be happy to help you learn. If you have friends and family that live locally, and play poker, please share this invite with them. For this to be a huge success, we need 100 people, and can take up to 150 people. It promises to be a good time, and, you can potentially be a WINNER - what a bonus!!
Plus: ITS FOR CHARITY!! Our charity is a non-profit charity and changes lives by providing outreach programs for people with diabetes. If you'd like more information on our charity, just ask and I can tell you more about it.
So many of you have supported me by donating to my campaign! I am so grateful and touched to have such kind and generous friends, many of whom I knew only very peripherally. Those of you that know Ed Slovenkay know what an awesome guy he is! He's one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever met. I cannot believe we've only been friends for just 6 short months ... he's been a mentor, a coach, a friend to me, and I know that many of you feel the same about him. So, let's step up and support his fundraiser!! And if you can't attend, please consider a monetary donation to his daughter's campaign.
