Hey peeps! A vet friend of mine is having a lot of pain with PF. She isn't a triathlete, but exercises regularly, so it's really interfering with that, as well as very painful in a profession where you are on your feet all day. She's tried orthotics, a simple surgery, and different shoes, but she's looking for other options, and some "success stories" as this is quite depressing and painful. I suggested working with a sports medicine doctor, vs. a podiatrist, but I've not (thankfully) had to deal with this. She doesn't live around here, so a specific doctor won't be too helpful. I'm looking for advice to share with her, and if you've had a successful resolution/management, maybe it would be easier to put you in contact with her directly. Her name is Susan and probably the nicest person I've ever met!
Any input/advice would be helpful. Thanks! Tiff

I got PF in the very beginning of the summer and it was awful, feels like you are standing on your bare bones. I tried a lot of suggested "do-it-yourself" treatments and its better to the point where I can run on the treadmill almost pain free and still be able to walk the next morning. A few simple things things that worked for me: rolling my feet over a frozen water bottle after any kind of working out/rolling my foot on a racquetball (hurts but it feels better later), stretching my calves and achilles regularly throughout the day, orthos in all my shoes...I would highly recommend getting a pair of tennis shoes and putting them next to your bed so you are NEVER barefoot, even to run to the bathroom in the middle of the night, its a pain but the difference it makes is huge.

Tiffany - I've had PF more than onve and it is no fun - She has done some pretty extensive treatments without any relief - not good - The only other suggestion I would have is to see an ART therapist - good luck

tiffany - i'm with jim i go to a MRT person but that has helped minimally. i bought a few pairs of danskos and wore them religiously last winter (which is when my PF bothers me) and it literally stopped it after about a week of wear. they are expensive shoes but last for a long time and are super comfortable. i have read places that some people experience some discomfort in their feet and calves the first week or so but i was fine after a few days and literally wore them every time i was standing or moving. this fall/winter transition from no shoes and sandals to structured shoes went great! i haven't had any problems so far this year. hope that helps!
