For those of you who want a little more guidance in your workouts or are looking to improve from previous year's fitness and would like to help with a local charity, we encourage you to explore Eleonore Rocks Training Team.
Eleonore Rocks (www.eleonorerocks.org) is a 501(c)(3) charity that was founded in November 2009 when Dave & Rochelle Friedrich's newborn daughter passed away after 1 week in the NICU. Afterwards they set up a foundation to raise money. They sent Rocking Chairs to the NICU at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital to replace some of the older, batterd chairs that were present as they felt that the chairs symbolized a time that they could be alone with their baby away from the cares of the ICU.
Dave then created a triathlon team to raise funds to provide more chairs and to begin providing funds for services to help others who may have been overwhelmed by the ICU experience. We hope to expand and provide equipment that may not be covered by insurance.
This year we are creating a Training Team that will be led by Sean Gilbert (USAT Level I coach). The team will include clinics that will introduce the novice or intermediate triathlete to the sport of triathlon ie changing tires, transitions, etc. There will also be a program for the following distances: Sprint, Oly, Half-Ironman. Our target races for 2011 include the Greater Cleveland Sprint/Olympic Triathlon & Duathlon and Rev3 Cedar Point. Additionally team members will have the opportunity to communicate with Coach Sean regarding any additional issues pertaining to the training.
The goal of this team is to raise money and have fun. Each participant will be required to commit to raise a minimum of $150 either on their own via pledges or by selling raffle tickets. We will be having two raffles this year.
For 2011 the monies raised will be used in conjucntion with the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. For more information or to obtain an application, please feel free to contact me. We will be having informational meetings at the Cleveland Clinic as well as locally in the community.
