I am in desperate need of OW swim workouts to combat the panic attacks I'm getting in races I'm a strong swimmer, just having issues in races, so I need to get real aggressive in this area ASAP! I live in Mentor on the Lake - about 200 yds from Lake Erie. I'd love to get a regular OW swim going out here! Best days for me would be Mon am. or Tues pm., but I could probably swing any morning/evening except Monday pm. Anyone else up for trying to organize a east side swim that we can count on regularly? Chime in and let me know! Tiffany

Sounds like there is some interest but I am not the one to organize it as I am new to OW swimming (and swimming in general) myself. I need the practice asap as I have a few races coming up. I am available most of the times listed above. The Fairport sounds great but my first race is the 12th so I want to be comfortable well before then. Thoughts?

Steve and I have a friend that lives in Bratanahl and has access to the small sandy beach area. He has agreed to provide us access to the beach for weeknight swims if we want.
I would like to swim there but I do not want to be responsible for another weekly group workout.
Tiffany, if you are interested in this location and want to take the lead on this I can arrange for our first swim and you can meet our host. Or, if you don't want to do the swim weekly, we can announce them as they come on the forum.
Mentor is a long way to drive for me, and Bratenahl is along way to drive for many others, but there is simply to *clean* place to swim in between on the eastside. That is the issue we run into every year. Big beautiful lake with no access.

Tim, I may be interested - I may switch my workouts (Brick on Sat and Run on Sun) - how long is the GCT course? I need the OW practice so at minimum I may come up Sun.

I can't do the Sunday workout b/c I signed up for a Tri in Munroe Falls that morning - bummer! I'd have opted for the workout over the race had I known.
Alison, I would be interested in a Bratenahl swim - Tuesday evenings would be best for me, but other evenings could work, except Mondays. If enough interest, I'd be happy to step up and commit to a regular OW swim each week. Let me know what you think, and anyone else that may be interested, please chime in! The second option would be a Headlands weekly OW swim in the evening, or even possibly morning. What we need to know is how many would be interested in having a regular OW swim out here on the east side! Many options for the westsiders and southsiders, not so much for us in the east. We can change that if the interest is there.

It's a far drive for me from Stow, but I know I need to practice in Lake Erie to be ready for GCT and Cedar Point. So, I'll do what I can to be there as much as possible. I'd like to shoot for at least once every other week, if not weekly. I just need to make sure I have childcare for my boys.

I'd be interested either spot - Headlands are closer but Brat. is highway. - Tues. pm would work for me (others could as well).

How about Headlands Tuesday Nights?? 6 or 6:30?
Kim, I'm still open to hooking up (well, not HOOKING UP!) with you for late mornings ... throw out days to me weekly via facebook and I'll do my best to make it work. I'm off on Tues. so a Tues at 10 or 11 could work - I have no problem doing a double OW swim - am and pm! Other days can work too, just need to take it on a case by case ... let me know.
So, jrcmack & kim look to be takers for this ... anyone else??
Durno or Janet ... anything we need to do to make this a somewhat official routine practice option? I would be up to committing to it. Let me know!

If you want to make an official club workout let me know the details and I will send you all the group workout leader information, so you know what we expect you to do. I will then update the training page and the main page on the website.
If you let me know by this weekend we can get this info into the next email Blast to the club.

Tiffany, I can do Tuesday's at 6:30 - either Headlands or Bratenahl. Either one is a haul from my house, but I work in Beachwood...So it's not so bad from there. I should be able to do next Tuesday and the 6th...

I'll be there tonight, Tues. June 29th, at 6:30 for anyone that wants to join me. I heard from Ken Beech that there is a bacteria rise and to be aware ... each of the beaches does routinely test and will close down a beach if the numbers are too high. As long as the beach is open, I'll give it a go ... will check with the lifeguard too.
Any other takers, please join me - I'll look to spear-head this each Tues. at 6:30 at Headland's Beach. If you need to reach me: 440-725-0266 Tiffany

Tonight - July 6th - 6:30 Mentor Headland's Beach, Lot 17. Got three of us with a verbal commitment, the more the merrier! Anyone with an idea of how to gauge distance along that beach - maybe via buoys? - please feel free to share! It would be nice to know a fixed distance and I suck at guessing that! I can hardly keep track of the number of buoys we swim past ... Thank God for Marsita!! (I may not be good at math, but I CAN resect a bowel and remove a spleen )
